Distinguished Engineer

Geico is seeking a Distinguished Engineer with a passion for building greenfield platforms and tools in the performance, capacity, and efficiency domain. This role is pivotal in driving cost and resource efficiency through improvements in technology architecture and engineering. The successful candidate will deliver data-driven, end-to-end demand, capacity, and utilization management solutions. You will lead the technical strategy and execution of critical initiatives and roadmaps that will enhance the productivity of the engineering organization, ensuring that infrastructure and services run in a performant and cost-effective manner.

Position Responsibilities:

 As a Distinguished Engineer, you will:

• Provide architectural and thought leadership across several interdependent engineering teams, systems, and service offerings.

• Serve as the technical expert, researching, evaluating, and implementing state-of-the art open-source technologies, and contributing to open-source software.

• Be responsible for hands-on technical outcomes, delivering a unified developer engineering experience for all customer-facing applications.

• Develop and lead the multi-year architecture and technology strategy for the entire organization.

• Drive system and platform thinking within development teams.

• Act as a role model and mentor to senior and junior engineers, guiding them in understanding architecture, design, and system implementation.

• Maintain excellent communication with partner teams and leads, articulating technical implementations for various stakeholders, and ensuring alignment across teams.

• Provide deep technical expertise and thought leadership to accelerate the adoption of best engineering practices while staying informed about industry innovations, trends, and practices. • Contribute to the Geico developer community and open-source projects.

Qualifications:

 • Extensive experience in leading and building full-stack web applications, with a strong focus on front-end technologies such as React, TypeScript, Bootstrap, and Django-based backends. Sensitivity: Company-Internal

• Proven expertise in designing and developing microservices using Go, Python, Django, gRPC, Kafka, and Apache Spark, with a deep understanding of both API and event-driven architectures.

• Experience in building AI/ML capabilities for forecasting and recommendation-based systems. • Expertise in building architecture, design patterns, and developing new frameworks.

• Strong knowledge in data model design on relational databases like PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases such as Cassandra and MongoDB.

• Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle, including task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, and real-time communication.

• Contributions to open-source projects (preferred).

Experience:

 • 15+ years of experience in full-stack web development (Go/Python/Java), with expertise in client-side and server-side frameworks and a focus on user experience.

• 8+ years of experience working with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and private cloud technologies (OpenStack).

• 6+ years of experience in open-source frameworks.

• 4+ years of experience in AI/ML. Education

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.

Annual Salary

$150,000.00 - $300,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
