WE’RE LINKING THE WORLD WITH THE FUTURE OF CABLE TECHNOLOGY 

 

Overview: 

This position reports to the Manufacturing Manager or designate as part of the plant’s Production team and is responsible for performing a broad range of duties primarily consisting of Utilizing a forklift to move, position and load or unload reels, boxes, coils, and pallets of finished goods onto trucks for transportation.  Unloading trucks, rail cars, and containers containing raw materials.  Preparing trucks for loading and positioning dunnage as specified and securing to the truck bed.  Locating, moving, and store product at correct location using correct method and RF Scanner.  Following all ISO and other departmental instructions. 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities: 

General 

Participate in the plant’s safety program as requested 

Cover for other team members when needed 

When workload is excessive, communicate with Supervisors to match support to workload 

Perform other work as directed by the Manager and associated leaders 

Key Requirements: 

Remove and install wire drawer die per specifications on the production order. 

Roll full bobbins/spools of wire (300-600 lbs. each) with diameter specified on the production order into pallets for transportation to stranding positions. Load empty spools onto a spindle. 

String up machine with rod by manually pointing down the rod to fit through each stage die and drawing the wire down to the desired diameter as per the production specifications. 

Check wire size by weight using computer ISQ system. 

Monitor footage at take-up to determine if footage of core specified in the production order has been reached.  

During operation check for rod coils for near empty coils and complete transfer to new coil. Ensure that a new coil is ready, welded, and properly positioned for transfer from the empty coil. 

Ensure that assigned work area adheres to 6S principles. 

Make set-up/change overs to minimize time constraints associated with returning the line to production with minimum down time. 

Read, understand, and carry out oral and written instructions. 

Read work orders, scrap tickets, job lot tickets, graphs, logs, schedules, raw material labels and general product labels, etc. 

Observe and read instruments, gauges, and dials to determine operating conditions. 

Read and interpret specifications and production orders. 

Prepare detailed reports and records listing production date, keeping inventory records, and operating logs. 

Inspect, examine, and observe for product and equipment defects. 

Use simple arithmetic to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. 

Use measuring devices such as pin gauges, micrometers, calipers where reading and interpretation is required. 

Operate hoists, cranes, fork truck, power, and non-power hand tools. 

Read and understand the safety requirements for the job to include personal protective equipment, chemical exposures (right-to-know), machine guarding, noise protection, and ergonomics as it affects the safe operation of the equipment. 

As the need arises, re-stemming of stem pack wire while running on spoolers is expected.  

Understand and carryout any other duties as directed by a supervisor.  

 

  

 

Working Conditions effecting key requirements:  

This job is performed both indoors and outdoors.  The temperature in the work area will approximately equal ambient temperature for the plant but work must be performed regardless of temperature.  

Tools and Equipment used:  

Forklifts of various sizes and capacities, yard truck, sweeper, or floor cleaner.  RF scanner, measuring tape and other tools such as skill saw, nail gun, hammer, sledge, pry bar, and banding equipment as required.  

Special Requirements:  

Forklift driver’s license. Must have good hearing and eyesight.  Must be able to push or pull 100 pounds infrequently and pull or push 75 pounds routinely. Must be able to lift 75 pounds infrequently and routinely lift 25 pounds.  

 

 

Key Requirements:   

Operate a forklift to load and unload trucks, rail cars, and containers.  

Perform shipping, receiving, and inventory counting functions.  

Assist other operators in positioning dunnage as specified for shipment.  

Operate a forklift to move trash dumpsters outside to waste receptacles, dump and return to work areas as directed by the supervisor.  

Clean up the work area using brooms and mops and collect trash.  

Change propane gas tanks to refuel vehicles.  

Monitor and notify DC Coordinator when diesel fuel is low.  

Read, understand, and carry out oral and written instructions.  

Complete safety inspection of forklift or other powered equipment ensuring that the equipment is fully operational and capable of performing the assigned task.  

Read receiving and shipping bills to ensure that the correct product is properly loaded, shipped to the correct customer, and is on the designated truck.  

Verify loads and sign off on shipping documents.  

Inspect, examine, and observe for product and equipment defects.  

Take photos of all outbound loads as specified by DC Coordinator.  

Use simple arithmetic to include addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.  

Read and understand the safety requirements for the job to include personal protective equipment, chemical exposures (right-to-know), machine guarding, noise protection, and ergonomics as it relates to the job tasks.  

Follow all requirements to meet the 4 points of protection to include but not limited to dock locks, fall protection, wheel chocks, and stop signs.  

Perform other functions as required by the supervisor.  

 

  

Personal Protective Equipment:  

Safety shoes, safety glasses with side shields, and hearing protection are required as part of the personal protective equipment.  Rain gear is used as necessary and is provided.  Cotton gloves and canvas gloves must be used as appropriate for some parts of the job and are dispensed per company guidelines.  

 

Work Environment/Physical Demands: 

This job is performed is almost exclusively indoors. It is located in a high noise area and hearing protection is required to be worn. Safety shoes and safety glasses with side shields are required as part of the personal protective equipment.  The temperature in the work area will approximately equal ambient temperature for the plant and may be as high as 115 F in the summer and 30 F in the winter. 

100% compliance to plant safety and PPE polices (eye and hearing protection and safety shoes and other PPE as specified for individual processes) 

Fast paced and hectic work environment where speed, accuracy, and multi-tasking are required routinely 

Regular in-person interaction with other plant team members 

May require ability to operate common tools such as fork trucks of various sizes, pallet jacks 

Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environment which includes working throughout all seasons and associated natural temperature ranges 

Ability to learn to discern problems based on familiarity with products and plant processes 

Ability to learn the layout of the work area and place WIP and NCP in appropriate locations 

May sometimes require unexpected overtime depending on the daily needs and volume 

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

Prefer high degree of computer skills such as Microsoft Office and production systems 

Effective written and verbal communication skills  

 

Qualifications: 

Demonstrated experience using computers, tablets, smartphones to perform work is required 

Demonstrated experience thinking strategically and creatively to solve problems and improve processes is required 

At least one year of experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
