Job Background & Summary:

We at Actalent Services are a fast-growing engineering consulting group which expanded to Canada in 2014. A significant part of that growth has come out of our Western Canadian Operations focused on Infrastructure and Utilities projects. To support this growth, we have opened a contract employment position for a Distribution Designer (Trainee). In this role, the selected candidate will be in training and learning BC Hydro distribution design codes, design standards and processes. The selected individual will be a part of our Utilities Division based out of New Westminster, BC.

The selected individual will join our rapidly growing team delivering projects to a variety of utility clients with a focus on electrical utility infrastructure. We are looking for people that take ownership, are career motivated, well organized and detail oriented with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

This role required Drug and Alcohol screening as a pre-employment requirement.

Our operation is under a Hybrid work model.

Job Requirements

Diploma or Degree, with preference for Electrical or Civil Engineering Technology Engineering programs.Strong oral and written communication skillsProficient using MS Office and AutoCAD software

Considered an asset

6+ months of experience, internship or international experience focused on Distribution Design (overhead (OH) or underground (UG)).BCIT Electrical Power & Industrial Control DiplomaExperience using SPIDAcalc, PLS-CADD, DAD and/or Passport

Job Responsibilities

Design underground and overhead electrical infrastructure according to client and national standards and requirements.Use SPIDAcalc non-linear pole line analysis tool to evaluate pole design and create non-standard OH Line design solutions.Use of underground cable pulling calculation software to confirm design solutions, such as pull planner.Use load balancing and fuse coordination software for distribution system improvement projects.Provide design for any non-standard/engineered solutions.Prepare design packages for review and submission. Packages to be provided for Pole Replacement/Maintenance, LPT/PMT/Livefront, Feeder Design, Smart Meter, Customer Driven 3rd Party Attachments, Automation and other BC Hydro Programs.Checking and reviewing work of peersPrepare issue for construction packagesCoordinating with clients, co-workers, subcontractors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholdersAttend project meetings and conduct site inspections and reviewsAnd other tasks as directed by leadership

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.50 - $26.50
