Distribution Grid Modernization Engineer – Mid level POWER Engineers, Member of WSP is seeking a Mid-level Distribution Grid Modernization Engineer. This position is posted in multiple POWER Engineers, Member of WSP office locations with the ability to work remotely from a mutually acceptable location (please note in the application questions where you prefer to be located). The candidate selected for this position may work remotely full-time at a location other than a POWER Engineers, Member of WSP-designated office/job site. Employees may travel to a POWER Engineers, Member of WSP office for periodic meetings. Summary of Roles and Responsibilities:As a Distribution Grid Modernization Engineer, your role is to help reshape the distribution system, so our clients can provide the power necessary for tomorrow’s needs. You will be executing project work for yourself and others. This will include the ability to effectively scope, schedule, budget, and lead projects.  The role requires a level of knowledge to provide technical guidance to the team as well as work as partner with our clients to help them meet their needs. Daily activities can include client calls, actively engineering solutions, advising and mentoring other engineers, performing quality checks, developing processes, developing proposals, and other various project execution tasks. The qualified candidate will be responsible for the modernization of the utility distribution systems, this includes planning, justification, and on-going support of the following Distribution Grid Modernization Programs:FLISR (Fault, Location, Isolation, and Service Restoration)Volt-Var Optimization or other similar programs (IVVC, CVR)Distribution ResiliencyADMS (Advance Distribution Management Systems)Electrification of TransportationDER Solutions (DERMS, NWA/NWS, Dynamic Response, Hosting Capacity)Advance Planning Techniques (8760, Quasi Static Time Series Analysis)The ability to interact with a wide variety of people to obtain the required information needed for performance of electrical distribution system studiesLeads and performs engineering tasks associated with a critical or analytical engineering project or a small number of complex projects that require specialized knowledge in many areas.Exercises authority and technical leadership on assignments that are often self-initiated and self-directed. Assignments are strategic and have significant long-term implications to achievement of overall business objectives.Track project schedules and budgetsParticipation in industry working groups or standards (IEEE, CIGRE, IEC, ANSI)Participation as a presenter in industry conferencesSome travel should be expectedAbility to supports other distribution disciplines such as Protection and Planning Required Education/ExperienceA BSEE degreeRegistration as an Engineer in Training or Professional EngineerFive (5)+ years of experience in the electrical power delivery industryDemonstrated experiencing in Electrical Power System Analysis using one of the following software packages – CYME, Milsoft, or SynergiMust have a strong command of the English language and possess good written and oral communication skillsAbility to work in design teams, is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks, and take the initiative to learn new topicsDesired Education/ExperienceA MSEESignificant knowledge of the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution lines (4 kV through 35 kV)Demonstrated advance modeling techniques internal to CYME, Synergi, or Milsoft or external programing/scriptingDemonstrated PSCAD or other EMT software analysis for feasibility studies, system impact studies, reactive compensation studies, critical clearing time, stability (transient & dynamic), interconnection model development, power factor correction, and other related studiesDemonstrated experience in ADMS Configuration, Testing, or support of a software package similar to one of the following– Schneider EcoStruxure, OSI Spectra, GE ADMS, or SurvalentONEPrior Experience supporting or within a Distribution System Operations DepartmentDemonstrated Experience working on Pilot Projects from creation to completionDemonstrated Successful Change Management as part of Pilot ProjectsFoundational Knowledge of Utilities IT/OT ArchitectureDemonstrated industry participation in industry working groups, standards, conference presentations, or publicationsExperience with developing utility planning/program standardsExperience with the integration of distributed generation within the planning processPOWER Engineers, Member of WSP, is a global consulting environmental and engineering firm and one of the top design firms in the energy sector. That might seem contradictory to some, but it works for us! Base Salary Range:  $100k - $150kThe range for this position is being displayed in compliance with all state and local regulations. Salaries are set based on a number of factors to include an individual's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. This means that no two candidates are alike.
