Maintains, diagnoses, inspects and/or repairs engines, vehicles and other motorized equipment. JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Under general supervision, supervises mechanics in the maintenance, diagnosis and repair of gasoline and/or diesel powered engines, vehicles and mechanical equipment. Inspects and evaluates vehicles and equipment for proper and safe operation upon completion of repairs. Performs administrative duties such as purchasing and records maintenance. May oversee the dispatch of tractor-trailer operators in the daily pickup and delivery of items. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications. STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: · Associate's/Vocational/Technical degree in area of assignment from an accredited college or university AND Two years of experience in area of assignment OR · Three years of experience in area of assignment OR · One year of experience at the lower level Mechanic 2 (FET061) or position equivalent. · Note: Some positions may require specific licensure. AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: · Three years of experience in the skilled repair of gasoline and/or diesel powered engines, vehicles and mechanical equipment · Possession of a Commercial Driver's License · Demonstrated experience understanding and applying shop manual settings, diagrams, capacities, and instructions · Ability to physically lift or assist in lifting heavy equipment such as: brake drums, transmissions, and engine blocks and to perform moderately laboring work · Previous experience in a lead or supervisory role interacting with others to guide, influence, motivate, and challenge them · Demonstrated ability to assist/teach others by guiding and providing constructive feedback · Committed to providing quality customer service · Demonstrated experience analyzing situations in order to generate and evaluate alternatives and recommend a solution based on facts, rules, etc · Displays a high level of commitment toward work, a high standard of ethical conduct, adapts to changes in priorities, procedures and processes and possesses the stamina to perform repetitive tasks AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: · Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL within six months · Demonstrated experience purchasing supplies and equipment and maintaining appropriate records · Demonstrated ability to supervise mechanics · Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a high performance environment characterized by positive leadership and a strong team orientation · Maintains a positive view of self and displays a professional image IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL GDOT JOBS The interview is just one part of the overall selection process and is not the only criteria used to make the final selection. In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation.
