Diverse Media Manager
Job Description

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Global Technical Center- Cadillac Tower three times per week, at minimum.

Primary Function & Position Summary: The Manager of Diverse Media will play a key role in maintaining GM’s position as a global leader in the media and marketing landscape. This position will be expected to contribute to General Motors’ Modern Marketing approach including our commitment to diversity and inclusion in our media and marketing practices.  This role will support both our brands and centralized diversity functions to advance our multicultural efforts in both diverse owned and dedicated media.   

A successful candidate should have experience working with advertisers, agencies, publishers, and various broadcast and digital media vendors. In addition, it will be critical to have the ability to lead cross-functional, collaborative projects in data driven-environments. The candidates should display a strong ability interpret data and built strategy for to support the growing multicultural market.  

Areas of Responsibilities: 

Serve as subject matter expert for the organization across the media landscape (linear, digital, OTT and emerging formats) Provide reporting and status on investment tracking and performance that supports diverse owned and targeted media investment Liaison with Media agency to ensure core performance measures are achieved Collaborate across projects with multiple internal and external teams such as GM Research, Analytics, Legal, Purchasing, Communications, etc. Own and contribute to development of a diversity media road map that incorporates our commitment and resonance with our strategic audiences  Key diversity media support contact for Brand teams, agencies, media, and vendor needs Identify and explore Emerging Media themes to enable future success and competitive advantages Support the adoption of data-driven, people-based marketing across the diverse media landscape Support core digital media operations activities and supplier development with key digital competencies Work in partnership with industry leaders to build external partnerships (e.g. AIMM)  Coordinate and monitor industry and competitive best practices of the consumer journey Proactively identify, manage and improve the diverse media experience across all media tiers and LMAs  Work cross functionally with key stakeholders within GM to maximize and implement DEI strategy  Lead the cross functional Diverse Culture Hub with Divisional Leads 

 

Skills and Behaviors: 

Strategic thinking, problem solving and written and oral presentation skills Diversity and general market media relations and executive communications experience Extensive agency management/partnership experience Ability to build strong relationships  Desire to remain current in the media space through ongoing education and skill development Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and ability to manage conflicting priorities  Excellent time management skills – the ability to effectively and efficiently use your time to focus on the most impactful activities and challenge those that distract from the identified goal  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while remaining graceful under pressure Prior supervisory/leadership experience - experience in leading and developing employees preferred High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others both within & outside the organization Ability to think strategically and creatively Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite  

 

Education & Additional Requirements: 

7 years of experience in paid media and/or digital marketing, agency and/or automotive experienceBachelor’s degree required  Experience in complex automotive industry matters  Strong news sense and media knowledge  Prowess in managing expectations and forecast trends, cultural moments, and cultural sensitives.  Diverse Media landscape understanding.  All ethnicities.   Media expert who understands the challenges and ability to support/manage agencies.  Must be comfortable traveling 25% of the time
