The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine, Joe R & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine, UT Health San Antonio, is recruiting a faculty position for Division Chief in Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine, rank and tenure status are dependent upon qualifications and experience. Candidates must be board-certified in Pediatric Pulmonology. The new leader will be charged with the creation and implementation of a strategic plan that will guide the division into future accounting advancements in programmatic development, research, and faculty growth.  With an unwavering commitment to a resource and fiscal package to support clinical and academic missions, and a unique environment and growth strategy to meet the growing number of pediatric lives in San Antonio and South Texas, we believe this to be among the top legacy leadership roles in pediatric academic medicine.

The Department of Pediatrics, in conjunction with University Hospital and its clinics (UT Health San Antonio/UH), seeks to recruit a Chief who can continue to further the institution’s footprint in meeting the growing need for comprehensive pediatric pulmonary care, while simultaneously elevating the division’s scholarly activities.

Opportunity Highlights:

·         The division is currently home to an outstanding Cystic Fibrosis Clinic, which is led by Dr. Donna Beth Willey-Courand, and has substantial opportunity to expand programs in asthma, home ventilator management, and outpatient clinics.

·         UT Health San Antonio is the oldest academic teaching hospital in San Antonio and has a thriving relationship with University Hospital, a premier Level I trauma center, which houses a brand-new 300-bed women’s and children’s hospital.

·         University Hospital recently entered an exclusive employment contract with the premier pediatric anesthesia group in San Antonio, which will now provide exclusive anesthesia support to all pediatric sub-specialty services.

·         The Pediatric population in Bexar County grew 15.7% from 2011-2021 (478K-553K).

·         Pediatric/neonatal patients are referred from a wide catchment area including Laredo, Eagle Pass, Uvalde, Del Rio, and Seguin.

·         Applicants will be considered with a current rank of Associate Professor or above.
