Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose:   
Lead development and execute PEx strategy across OCS (aligned with the Corning and OCS Global Quality Strategies) to drive operations excellence and meet or exceed business objectives. Responsible to establish roadmaps and metrics that lead to sustainable contributions to operational performance. Report to OCS Leadership on Global PEx capabilities, progress to plan, and PEx metrics. Support the division to ensure an adequate number of SMEs and certified belts to accomplish OCS performance objectives.  Partner with OCS Leadership to develop plant, regional, and division succession plans for key PEx roles. Drive improvement and sustainment of foundational LEAN capabilities alignment with the Corning LEAN Council programs.  Support driving the assimilation of PEx into the OCS culture; leveraging initiatives such as CLImB.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 Lead execution of the PEx strategy and roadmap   Manage/support Regional and Plant PEx resources to achieve OCS objectives  Develop GB, BB, MBB, and Sponsor bench strength through certification and growth opportunities   Train, coach, mentor, and recognize belts throughout the globe   Administer belt certification standards and utilization   Establish and Maintain PEx Dashboard and facilitate leadership discussions / decisions about PEx programming and effectiveness  Define and implement Belt effectiveness measures including targets and goals   Develop and deploy new PEx tools and concepts   Partner with OCS Leadership to develop plant, regional, and division succession plans for key PEx roles including playbooks and development guides   Deploy PEx at new sites and other strategically important expansions    Support OCS Technology and Commercial with PEx project leader development and PEx programs   Provide regular updates on PEx roadmap progress to leadership including quarterly to the GM  Administer the Quality in Action and PEx award application processes  Track the PEx Savings against target; develop trip wires and manage action plans   Participate as OCS representative on the PEx Council  Plan and execute belt support for the cost reduction ideation programs – design and facilitation support   Provide facilitation capabilities for division leadership as requested  Lead the OCS PEx BB Council  Coordinate activities with OFC PEx Champion

 

Required Qualifications: 

A four-year bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering  Minimum of 5 years total of training and facilitation experience and manufacturing experience. Certified DMAIC Black Belt through Corning or outside equivalent with 5 years of Black Belt experience required Effective leadership, organization, and planning skills, with ability to handle changing priorities  Knowledge and experience with project planning tools such as MS Project, risk analysis, and KT Problem Analysis, Potential Problem Analysis, and Decision Analysis  Excellent communications, interpersonal and influencing skills  Demonstrated track record of on-time project delivery within budget; ability to drive projects to successful conclusion using influencing tools  Ability to lead international teams across multiple initiatives that span various lines of business, geographic borders, time zones, and cultures  Must be a self-starter, able to work in team environment and motivate others 


 

Desired Skills:

Certified DMAIC Master Black Belt through Corning or outside equivalent with 3 years of Master Black Belt experience preferred  Experience in MEE methods of root cause analysis and TRIZ solution generation

  
Travel Requirements: 

Expect up to 50% global travel depending on activities and support necessity. Travel time is not always evenly disbursed. Destinations:  Global operations units are in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Must maintain passports and visas to allow flexible travel to these locations.

The range for this position is $116,625.00 - $160,360.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
