CUNY SPS seeks a Doctoral Lecturer with cross-disciplinary scholarly interests to serve as the Academic Director for the General Education program and the Liberal Studies Bachelor of Arts program. The CUNY SPS General Education program consists of 45 courses across all areas of the CUNY Pathways General Education Flexible and Required Core and serves all undergraduate degree programs. The Liberal Studies degree is affiliated with General Education: many courses are cross-listed and faculty teach in both programs.
Reporting directly to the School’s Chief Academic Officer, the Academic Director is responsible for teaching courses in their discipline and has administrative responsibilities akin to a traditional Department Chair. These responsibilities include:
- Provides direction to ensure best-practice strategies for student learning, retention, success, and completion.
- Fosters a collaborative environment that supports faculty engagement, scholarship, teaching excellence, and learning innovation.
- Collaborates with campus offices (Registrar, Deans, Finance, Admissions, HR) to support recruitment, admissions, and strategic School initiatives.
- Works with the Offices of Enrollment Management and Marketing to develop and implement recruitment strategies and marketing efforts.
- Leads continuous improvement through robust student experience and student learning outcomes assessment.
- Collects, analyzes, monitors, and distributes assessment data to inform annual planning and decision-making.
- Encourages use of data (course, program, institutional outcomes, workforce trends, student success and survey data) to guide program enhancements.
- Provides student advisement and support.
- Recruits, supervises, and mentors faculty and staff.
- Manages the day-to-day operations of the General Education and Liberal Studies Programs, with a strong focus on effective budget oversight and optimizing program profitability.
- Represents CUNY SPS on the University Coordinated Undergraduate Education (CUE) Council.
- Serves on other CUNY SPS and CUNY-wide governance and ad hoc committees as required.
- Engages in initiatives that support the School's commitment to programmatic growth, high academic standards, shared governance, and to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
An earned Ph.D. degree in a Liberal Arts discipline or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years’ experience in higher education administration;
- Demonstrated experience with college-level online teaching and learning;
- Experience with curriculum building, online course and program development, and academic assessment;
- Familiarity with CUNY systems, policies, and procedures;
- Experience with budget development and management;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, administration, and staff at the School, with constituent units of the University, and with the University’s central administrative offices.
**COMPENSATION**
Salary commensurate with education and experience, from $84,404 - $88,998. The salary range reflects the 11/1/2022 salary scale. Updated contract rates are pending implementation.
