Donor Engagement Officer
The Donor Engagement Officer will join a dynamic development team in raising critical funds to address the high cost of housing, a key issue in our region. This individual-focused major giving position is responsible for qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting high-level donors. The successful candidate will be naturally curious about people and adept at aligning donor values with Habitat’s mission. We are seeking someone who will bring a warm, personal approach to deepen donor connections and foster long-term, meaningful support of the organization. The officer will also collaborate with various internal teams, leveraging insights and strategies to maximize donor engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
Manage a portfolio of approximately 150 individual donors with $5,000+ gift potential.
Develop and execute individualized plans to retain and upgrade donor support.
Proactively initiate contact with donors, conducting research and preparing personalized outreach materials and meeting logistics.
Collaborate with team on key initiatives and campaigns, and to craft impactful case statements that resonate with major donors.    
Utilize RENXT database to track donor activity, report on progress, and optimize strategies based on data insights, and build and maintain sound processes and systems to increase donor interaction and responsiveness
Collaborate with the broader Resource Development Team and other departments to execute donor-related components of two signature events, donor solicitations, cultivation events and stewardship activities.
Ensure a culture of gratitude, fostering respect and appreciation for all supporters.
Communicate Habitat’s needs, values, and ambitions through excellent informal and formal interactions. 
Assist in other development team activities as assigned. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Commitment to the ongoing work required to move Habitat for Humanity Portland Region toward a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization 
Minimum 5 years of front-line experience managing an individual donor portfolio.   
Proven track record of securing visits with donors, and soliciting, closing, and stewarding major gifts in the $5,000+ range.  
Commitment to fostering a community-centric approach to storytelling and fundraising that respectfully translates Habitat’s impact while inspiring donors to engage as equal partners in the work 
Demonstrate a keen sense of curiosity– seeking to understand each donor’s motivation by asking the right questions – and be able to steer the conversation.  
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write and speak clearly and effectively, to listen actively, and to engage, inspire and persuade. 
Proven success in working cross-departmentally and collaboratively with finance, program, and volunteer departments to achieve goals 
Demonstrated lifelong learner, with a desire to seek out best practices in the evolving world of fund development 
Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented and able to balance priorities. 
Proficiency with office technology and information systems (including Word, Excel, Outlook) and donor databases. 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Proficient in Raiser’s Edge software (NXT Preferred)  
Certified Fundraising Executive Certification (CFRE) 
Experience soliciting planned gifts. 
Understanding of the Portland Metro philanthropic community.  
Any qualifying combination of education, certification, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
Office/Hybrid
Human-paced, open, team-oriented, business casual office This position may be eligible for remote/hybrid work based on responsibilities, performance, and access to essential work-related resources.
The employee will routinely use standard office equipment such as computers and phones
This position may have occasional local travel and work nights and weekends.

Schedule
Office/Hybrid
40 hours a week generally Mon-Fri 8:30-4:30, but variable, occasionally evenings and weekends dependent upon appointments and events. Some travel and occasionally working from a build site or company’s location

Starting Salary Expectations:
Minimum $64,260 to wage range midpoint of $78.294. Placement will generally not exceed the midpoint based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. The full wage range is $64,260 to $93,177.
