Job Summary:

This position supports the plant by serving as the station’s Daily and Outage Planner/Coordinator following a structured Work Management Program.  The Planner / Scheduler supports various asset management initiatives and emphasizes the importance of Safety and Environmental policies.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Developing and drafting written maintenance plans for the plant including weekly and outage maintenance scheduling and assisting in establishing plant maintenance priorities. Works with Operations and Station Managers to develop a resource integrated daily, weekly, monthly, and outage work schedules. Develops detailed outage plans for inspection outages and overhauls. Ensures that all work is planned and complies with current safety procedures and LOTO protocols. Creates/develops schedules in support of routine & outage maintenance and/or projects as needed. Creates documents, including reports, memos, graphs, charts, tables, etc. Coordinate and interface between various work groups. Gains cooperation and action from people not under employee’s direct reporting. Reviews and updates job plans/work packages as needed.            Ensures Company resources are used in a cost-effective manner. Recognizes problems and is proactive in helping to resolve them.                          Initiates and tracks progress of work using work management systems (ex: routine and outage backlogs). Pre-plans forced outage schedules to ensure minimal plant down time to maximize revenue. Maintains the site long term maintenance plan to ensure equipment overhauls are performed within recommended frequencies to maximize plant reliability. Develops bid specifications and negotiates contractor support for major overhaul work such as turbine overhauls, boiler restoration, and various improvement projects. Supports the planning and tracking of outage budgets and expenditures for cost control.  Prepares cost control recommendations and work scope changes for plant management. Builds Requests for Expenditures for outages and outage related projects. Determines priority, cost, manpower and time estimates, re-evaluating estimates to reflect changing job requirements and preparing job sequence requirements for major plant projects and for specific maintenance work. Accumulating and analyzing data on actual versus estimated time, equipment, and manpower requirements. Establishing and validating estimates for recurring maintenance work using history, supervisory, planner, and craftsman knowledge.  Conferring, as needed, with representatives of equipment manufacturers on matters concerning the servicing, assembly, or maintenance of equipment. Recommending improved practices, methods and procedures to increase efficiency, quality, and reduce equipment downtime. Initiating work orders for major scheduled or forced outages and participating in developing weekly plans. Coordinating maintenance planning activities and reviewing work orders with the appropriate supervisors and other elements to assure mutual agreement with understanding, arranging for critical equipment isolation with operations to coordinate plant maintenance planning activities. Informing and instructing others in the application of work planning practice. Collateral duties and special projects as assigned. Assist field coordination between contractors, consultants, and material suppliers on assigned projects. Presents outage status to plant and senior management as required. Develops long lead material and services requirements for outages and outage plan. Works closely with the Operations, Maintenance, and Business Managers to ensure Outage Back Log is prioritized and managed. Leads outage meetings. Tracks and manages outage schedules. Communicate and lead in accordance with company vision and core values. Support station safety, maintenance performance, root cause analysis, condition-based monitoring, proactive maintenance initiatives. Support of station forced outages and maintenance outages.  This may at times involve working night shift hours and/or weekends. Development of engineered work packages. Oversee inventory and keep the warehouse clean and orderly.

 

Working Conditions:

Normal power plant environment and/or out of doors work environment.  Includes working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at generating unit work locations. Requires operation of a motor vehicle; Valid State Driver’s License. Regular extended and non-standard hours during critical issue resolution and to achieve project milestones. Occasional travel to corporate locations and other company plants. Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, fall protection etc.). Requires working around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals. Oversee inventory and keep the warehouse clean and orderly.

 

Minimum Requirements:

High School diploma or GED 3 years maintenance planning using SAP or other CMMS. Experience using personal computer standard business software Valid driver’s license

 

The position is a DOT PHMSA covered position and requires the successful candidate to pass a pre-employment DOT drug screen and drug and alcohol testing background check, and once placed will be a participant in the NRG DOT Program

 

Preferred Qualifications:

5 years’ experience in operations or maintenance activities. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or two plus years’ experience in Gas operated power plants.

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Primavera (P6) Scheduling Program SAP MS Office / Excel.

 

Physical Requirements (Demand and Frequency):

Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, gloves, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.) Ability to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals. Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect or collect data on plant equipment.    

 

Please Note:  Salary offered will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s education and/or experience and consistent with the job location’s market pay rate.
