Dozer Operator (GPS/Fine Grade)

Job Description:

Kokosing is looking for a Fine-Grade Dozer Operator for roadway and highway construction projects in the Richmond area. Must have the ability to cut ditches, cut and fill slopes, rough grade and fine grade. Reads grade stakes and works with grade checker to maintain grade. GPS and total station experience is a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Checks all fluids before starting engine.  Starts engine, shifts gears, and presses brake and throttle pedals.Moves levers to control tool bars, carriers, and disks.Moves levers and depresses pedals to maneuver tractor and raise, lower, and tilt attachment to clear right-of-way.Feels lever and listens for stalling action of engine to estimate depth of cut.Drives bulldozer in successive passes over terrain to raise or lower terrain to specified grade following markings on grade stakes or hand signals.Cleans dirt and debris from tracks using a track shovel/spade.Understands and is able to follow GPS blade control system.Understands and uses standard hand signals.Reads grade stakes.Operates equipment in a safe and responsible manner, at a speed that will accomplish production required in a normal day, as determined by the Foreman or Superintendent.When Operator work is not available, works with and assists crews by performing other duties as requested.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE

Minimum five years related experience and/or training.  Experience must be commensurate with requirements of Project (e.g. bridge and roadway experience), and therefore will vary by project.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certified or approved by Safety Department or Competent person.
Must pass practical test.

The Operator has a physically strenuous and demanding job that requires agility. When operating equipment, the Operator must be able to climb in and out of the piece of equipment safely. To climb onto the equipment the Operator uses both hands to grab hold of cab mounted hand grips and raises one foot up to 30 inches (from the ground) onto a step. Uses arm and leg power to lift his/her body up to the tread of the step. This process is repeated until the Operator reaches the cab. The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The operation of the equipment requires the use of both hands and arms for steering and moving levers and legs to operate foot controls and pedals. These activities are repeated throughout the work day. When there is no operator work required, the employee may assist the crew and perform other duties with physical demands. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Construction sites may be in isolated or in high traffic areas around other equipment and workers.
