Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
This Draw Department Head position will be responsible for leading Capital Projects in the Draw to expand the capacity and capability of Global OFC Manufacturing Facilities.
Primary component of the scope will be upgrading and installing optical fiber draw manufacturing equipment complimentary components include facility and process services in addition to IT, Quality and Operational systems.
Major Responsibilities:
Projects will typically be in the Optical Fiber sites – either in North America or International Oversee multiple project scopes are typically > $10M with a mixed of multi-disciplined direct reports and matrixed resources. The Department Head will partner with OFC Technology Development teams to specify the technology to be delivered. The Department Head will utilize Corning’s Capital Management System (Capricorn) for project scope development and project execution. Specific responsibilities include: Managing projects with project engineers and technicians plus matrixed project team members to execute projects within the draw areas. Interacting with leadership and peers throughout OFC to determine project objectives. Leading the use of the Capricorn process to fully define project scopes, develop funding requests, and execute projects. Defining resource needs required to successfully execute projects during planning, deployment, execution, start up and close out. Traveling to the project execution site as necessary during project definition phase; deploying to the project site as applicable during the project execution phase. Deployments may be 3-12+ months Managing communication with all stakeholders, steering team, and project governance team Managing project deliverables, schedules and budgets to the approved project scope.Reports to Manager of AMT Fiber Capital Programs
Travel Requirements (please note if international):
Typically, low during project planning/design phases (<25%).
Can be 100% during project Execution Phase. Deployment may be within North Carolina or to India, China, Europe.

40+ hours
Projects often require non-standard work weeks including weekends.
The position is overtime exempt. Overtime is not uncommon and is indeed expected at times, however the amount and duration will vary as a function of the job position, particular project, and point in the project life cycle.
Required Skills
Demonstrated Project Management proficiency. Technical proficiency to actively participate in the selection of technologies for a project and to guide the project team in design and troubleshooting activities. Strong analytical skills including the understanding of equipment, construction and manufacturing costs. Strong financial skills to manage project budgets and develop project business cases. Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with team members, stakeholders, and division leadership, including multi-national diverse teams. Adapt quickly to changing requirements. Willing to deploy to project sites.Desired Skills
Optical Fiber manufacturing experience – can be in development, engineering, or operations. Project Management Professional certification Technical or Manufacturing leadership experience Manufacturing Equipment design and development experienceEducation and Experience (minimum required for consideration)
BS or MS in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering. OR combination of a technical degree (design, electrical, mechanical, chemical, industrial) and additional relevant project management and manufacturing equipment experience. Minimum of 7 years’ experience in leadership/management roles for capital manufacturing equipment projects or similar manufacturing engineering leadership experience.

The range for this position is $155,994.00 - $214,493.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
