Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and entrepreneurial Drayage Operations Manager to launch and grow our new terminal. This is a true start-up opportunity within Cargomatic—you will be responsible for building operations from scratch, handling driver dispatch and customer service directly until the terminal is fully staffed, and ensuring operational success. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced environments, is passionate about logistics, and excels at building high-performing teams and efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Terminal Operations:
+ Establish and oversee all aspects of terminal operations, starting with a single truck and scaling rapidly.
+ Directly manage scheduling, dispatching, and coordination of drayage operations in the early stages.
+ Handle customer service responsibilities, ensuring prompt communication and resolution of inquiries.
+ Develop and implement efficient operational processes, ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
+ Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs while maintaining service excellence.
Driver Recruitment and Retention:
+ Actively recruit, onboard, and retain owner-operators and company drivers to support terminal growth.
+ Foster a positive and supportive culture, ensuring strong driver relationships and high retention rates.
+ Ensure all drivers meet compliance and safety standards.
Customer Relations:
+ Serve as the primary point of contact for customers in the region, ensuring a high level of service and satisfaction.
+ Address customer inquiries, resolve operational issues, and provide proactive communication.
+ Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders, including port authorities and vendors.
Team Building:
+ Initially manage all operations independently, including dispatch and customer service.
+ As operations scale, hire and train support staff for dispatch, customer service, and terminal management.
+ Establish a hiring timeline based on driver growth and operational needs.
+ Work with leadership to determine whether operational support will be linked to Atlas East or existing Cargomatic teams.
Financial and Operational Metrics:
+ Develop and manage the terminal budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
+ Track, analyze, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), including on-time performance, driver utilization, and safety metrics.
+ Identify and implement strategies to enhance profitability and efficiency.
Safety and Compliance:
+ Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including FMCSA and DOT requirements.
+ Promote a strong safety culture, conducting regular audits and training sessions.
+ Implement and enforce best practices to reduce risk and enhance workplace safety.
Qualifications:
+ Proven experience in drayage, intermodal trucking, or terminal management, preferably in a start-up or high-growth environment.
+ Strong knowledge of drayage operations, including port logistics, regulations, and market dynamics.
+ Demonstrated ability to recruit and manage drivers, build teams, and scale operations.
+ Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
+ Ability to thrive under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
+ Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and operational metrics.
+ Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and related software is a plus.

The expected salary range for this role is $60,000-75,000. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
