Description
Lee County is excited to announce an excellent career opportunity within our Solid Waste Department. We are looking for experienced commercial drivers to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for transporting various types of solid waste, including garbage, construction debris, recyclables, compost, yard waste, waste tires, and other materials, to designated disposal sites, recycling centers, or customers. Our solid waste drivers will operate a range of Class A and Class B equipment, such as walking floor trailers, dump trailers, roll-off trucks, claw trucks, and other support vehicles essential for transporting municipal solid waste.

Duties and Responsibilities
+ Employees who occupy this position work independently and in a team environment transporting solid waste and other materials to the appropriate destination.
+ Operates commercial vehicles such as; tractor-trailers, walking floor trailers, dump trailers, roll-off trucks, clam bucket trucks, and any associated equipment used in solid waste operations.
+ Performs routine inspections and light preventative maintenance to applicable equipment.
+ Prepares electronic daily log sheets and other associated paperwork.
Education, Experience, Licensing
Minimum Requirements:
+ Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and one-year operating tractor-trailers, trash hauling, or closely related experience.
+ This is a safety-sensitive position, which is subject to Drug & Alcohol Workplace testing as provided in DOT regulation 49CFR-parts 40 and /or 382.
Licenses:
+ Preferred: Possession of a valid Class A CDL with an airbrake endorsement.
+ To Be Considered: Class B CDL with an airbrake endorsement and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six months of hire.
+ Must not have No Manual Transmission restriction on CDL.
Supplemental Information
+ Knowledge: Proficient in using hand tools for performing maintenance.
+ Inspection and Maintenance: Capability to perform truck inspections and light maintenance tasks.
+ Equipment Operation: Skilled in operating equipment used in the daily transport of materials.
+ Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills.
+ Physical Requirements: Ability to work in various weather conditions and to stand, sit, kneel, crawl, or climb throughout the day. Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
+ Flexibility: May be required to fill in at other solid waste facilities as needed.
Work Schedule: The position requires working from Monday to Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., or Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays as needed. Additional hours may be required during emergencies.
