Job Description

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Effective facilitation of the deployment of Drones (RPAS) and associated equipment to a designated operational area as well as piloting drones in the designated area in support of security ground and surveillance teams.Co-ordinate and plan work of the operational drone team with applicable security teamsContinuously consult with the Tactical Response Services Lead on security strategy and policiesMonitoring security indicators and trends in the operational area and identifying optimization proposalsEnsure that resources are utilized effectively to address operational needsMonitoring and advising on drone (RPAS) equipment, techniques, training, and methodologies to support operational initiativesImplementing contingency plans to ensure that the business is protected from risk even in adverse conditionsManage improvement projects that will protect against risks within the designated operational area.Communicate best practices to line managers within the UnitIdentify best practices applicable to the role through benchmarking other similar organizationsBuild relationships with local law enforcement agencies and other relevant stakeholdersPromote effective risk management approaches relating to Drone (RPAS) operationsInput of ideas for Drone (RPAS) management decisionsIdentify opportunities to improve Drone (RPAS) applications within the organizationConduct annual and quarterly performance ratings on subordinatesEnsuring that all drone operations are conducted within the relevant legal and mandatory frameworksOperating Drones (RPAS) within a designated operational areaEnsuring all applicable flight documentation is completed and submitted timeouslyAssisting in operation establishment, including HIRF assessment and site risk assessmentEnsuring SHE compliance of all operations as per OHSA, MHSA, and specific legal appointments as may be applicableEnsuring operations are conducted in compliance with SACAA CATS, CARs, AAP operational planning, ROC and OpSpec.Participate, support, and manage SHEQ standardsEnsure that employees work in a safe and productive environment and set targets for improvementsSupport and participate in the development requirements of employeesIdentify potential conflict situations and minimize the implicationsControl discipline and ensure fair decisions regarding employee relationsDraft shift schedules, leave rosters and overtimeRegularly audit security systems within the organizationConducts surveys and audits to evaluate system effectivenessTestify in courts and hearings when requiredConduct and attend required meetingsOversee the implementation of new required systemsPro-actively identify and analyse risks and threats and recommend counter measures to prevent re-occurrenceSupport operations SHEQ targets and initiativesSupport Operational strategy and plansSupport management of / with agreed SLA’s for operationSupport project management

QualificationsGrade 12Completed 1st year tertiary studies in Security Management or Equivalent Registered with PSIRA Grade AValid driver’s license code B or C1South African Civil Aviation Authority, (SACAA) certification for multi-rotor, fixed-wing, and Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) drones (RAPS)SACAA rating for both Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) and Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone (RPAS) operationsSACAA RMT1 maintenance certification

Desirable:

A SACAA RMT2 maintenance certification will be advantageous

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in drone (RPAS) operationsA minimum of at least 1000 combined flight hours for multi rotor and VTOL drones (RPAS)Supervisory experience in operational drone environment will be advantageous.

Knowledge and Skills:

Competent in functional systems used in the organizationCommunications in English (spoken, written and reading)Basic knowledge of applicable business reports writingStatement taking and report writingHandling and protecting of crime scenesPresentation and handling of evidence in court/disciplinary hearingResponding to violent crimesEmergency preparedness and response to various situationsKnowledge in Investigation/Intelligence/Logistics and or SurveillanceUnderstanding of SAP system (Supply Chain)Knowledge in information gathering, administration and logisticsKnowledge of security related legislation / policies / procedures / standards and Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR)
