Job Summary

Performs work involved in the dry cleaning of a variety of wearing apparel and other articles such as silk, wool, synthetics, for laundering, spotting, stain removal and pressing, utilizing a variety of formulas and number of machines.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Sorts and separates incoming soiled garments for dry cleaning, by fabric, (i.e., wool, silks, synthetics, etc.) by colors and by type of item, (garments, blankets, etc.); dislodges lint and weighs garments. Places in washers according to the capacity of the machine, priority number and lot number in sequence. Mixes detergent and/or other appropriate formulas in accordance with established instructions; places in machines and sets timer. Removes and places in dryers.

- Removes wash from dryers and separates. Locates items that are stained and/or damaged and prepares for spot stain removal utilizing pre-mixed formulas and steam hose.

- Maintains working area in a clean and orderly manner.

- Works under the general supervision of a designated supervisor who makes assignments. Work is performed within the framework of established guides and instructions. Refers problems to supervisor for resolution. Work is reviewed for compliance with established procedures, instructions and patron satisfaction.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Ability to pull wet laundry from the washer, push heavy carts of wet laundry and lift bundles weighing over 50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Laundries are very noisy, and usually hot and humid. Workers are constantly exposed to the possibility of bruises from moving carts or falls on wet floors in the washing area.
