Ductline Mechanic (DLM) for Network Underground Services (NUS)
Georgia Power's Network Underground Services (NUS) plays an integral part in Georgias economy. NUS provides construction & maintenance services for the underground network electrical systems located in Metro Atlanta, Augusta, Savannah, Macon, Columbus, Athens, Valdosta and other spot Network Systems throughout Georgia. We provide a highly reliable electric service to High Profile Customers such as high-rise commercial and residential buildings, hospitals, government agencies and large businesses that are located within our service territory across the state. Our Ductline Mechanic (DLM) positions are based out of Atlanta. All candidates must be available to work within a certain distance of their assigned operating headquarters (upon hire). No relocation assistance is available.
Pre-Employment Tasks
The pre-employment testing will include, but not limited to, the following and will require up to 2 days of evaluations at the Network Underground Headquarters in Atlanta, GA Lunch will be provided both days, plus an allowance for one night hotel accommodations with dinner for any candidates outside of a commutable distance. There is no compensation for the pre-employment process and other travel expenses are the responsibility of the candidate.

You will NOT be paid for time spent going to these appointments.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The DLM will be responsible for all ductline related construction and maintenance for the underground network electrical systems and other high reliability distribution across the state of Georgia. You will receive training on the construction and maintenance activities associated with our Network & High Reliability Distribution systems including operating procedures for all equipment involved in the process, i.e., cranes, lifts, back-hoe, manhole/ductline installation equipment, etc. The candidate will be required to work on our system in enclosed spaces such as manholes, vaults & tunnels where entry requires access by ladders plus the ability to work at heights in lifts, scaffolds, etc. Safety is the most important component in everything we do while providing a quality product in an efficient manner.
The DLM will be required to have knowledge and demonstrate skills in the installation and maintenance of the underground network system. This includes but not limited to, manhole decking, manhole layout, removal of concrete on energized ductline, sump pump installation, excavation and shoring, concrete pouring and finishing, etc. The selected candidate will have to qualify during a pre-employment Ductline Mechanic Evaluation and Knowledge Assessment prior to consideration for employment.
The qualifying candidates will also be required to successfully complete additional training specific to Georgia Power and demonstrate the ability to perform each task during the 12-month probation period.
Job Duties include (but not limited to):
Working in an enclosed space Manhole and ductline installation Pouring concrete and flowable fill concrete Lowering and lifting 50-pounds or more while maintaining positive control Safely Operating/Driving Company Vehicles Removal of concrete from ductline with energized cable Operating heavy equipment (back-hoe, boom truck, forklift, or similar equipment) Working in adverse conditions outdoors – day and night hoursCandidate must be available and accessible at least 50% of the time for emergencies which could include evenings, weekends and holidays. Candidate must also be available for travel outside the state to support storm emergencies as needed.
Pay: This is a position covered by a collective bargaining agreement between Georgia Power and IBEW Local 84 and is governed by this agreement. Union membership is optional. The starting salary is $8,489 per/month OR $48.97 per/hour (non-negotiable and level of experience does not apply) and this pay is governed by this agreement which includes an increase every six months assuming satisfactory performance, until you max out in your job classification and a negotiated general increase every July.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Job Experience and Education
High School diploma or equivalent is required Candidates must have a basic mechanical and electrical aptitude or background Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the electric utility industry required. Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Journeyman Ductline Mechanical or equivalent required Underground Network experience required Distribution underground experience is strongly desired Must demonstrate skills, knowledge, and ability by successfully completing the company’s pre-employment Ductline Mechanic Evaluation Experience with removal of concrete from ductline with energized secondary or primary cables is required Construction and maintenance of underground network systems is required Knowledge and use of heavy equipment directly related to underground network systems is a plus Experience working outdoors with heavy equipment directly related to underground network systems is a plusKnowledge, Skills and Abilities
