Engineering Process TechnicianDuQuoin, IL: The DuQuoin, IL facility is responsible for the manufacturing of Medium Volt Industrial and Utility power cables for use in a wide range of electrical utility markets. Started in 1965 the plant employs approximately 200 associates and is a unionized facility.
About the Job: This position performs tasks associated with establishing and maintaining systems to improve the overall process and manufacturing flow. Primary/routine tasks are to provide process and problem solving support. This includes, but is not limited to, process development, equipment problem solving, waste/scrap reduction initiatives, improvement of standards & monitoring/enhancement of existing processes/procedures required for manufacture of energy cable. Focused & detailed attention provided to bottleneck operations in the process flow. Position requires utilization of problems solving tools identified in a Lean Sigma culture.
Areas of Responsibility:
Scheduling / Product FlowUnderstand the flow of product through the plant, identification and elimination of bottle necks.Provide insight in to the product schedule in order to optimize machine efficiency and reduce wasteFollow the leadership standard work format for daily auditsTrainingWork within the engineering department on basic training and understanding of safety programs related to shop floor activities.Develop training programs and participate in required training of all team membersQuality/Waste ReductionPerform daily audits of scrap and non-conforming material to help determine root cause and corrective actions.ProcessCapture accuracy of run sheet information provided to the floor including daily audits.Understand and participate in the tracking of various materials (plastics, metals, tapes or other materials) and drive a reduction in material usage.Audit of existing process tooling availability versus requirement for CV’s, serve and tape.Assist in the planning and execution of experiments on the shop floor. Project ManagementOversee small dollar value capital improvement projects from development of project plan through execution of the project.Work with various supplier and contractors to meet expected project outcomes.Work with various plant departments to ensure seamless execution of project plan.Lean SigmaParticipate in various lean sigma projects being conducted in the plant from Lean Tech to Black Belt level.Complete Introduction to Lean and Lean Technician courses.SafetyIdentify, lead and implement action items as required to improve the overall safety of the plant.MROIssue purchase requisitions to ensure proper supplies and equipment are available to operations.Desired skills:
Good communication skillsRequired to deal with a diverse group of General Cable employees on a daily basis.Strong organizational skillsResponsible for a large amount of information and must be well prepared for all demands on his/her resources.Computer skillsDatabase management, spreadsheets, power point and word processing.Willingness to work 12 hour shifts and weekends to support the plants continuous operation (current position is working a 3-2-2-3 schedule)Self-driven results orientated individual.Qualifications:
