Durable Medical Equipment Spec - Physician Office - St Francis Medical Center - Richmond, VA

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Responsible for daily operations for Durable Medical Equipment (DME) supplies, patient fitting and insurance pre-authorization and waivers.  DME Coordinator is responsible for timely and accurate communication with insurance companies, patients and staff regarding DME prescribed by the provider.

Essential Job Functions

Contact insurance companies to confirm DME authorization and patient co-pays.Knowledgeable regarding benefit details from Insurance companiesUse most efficient manner available to obtain DME benefits: phone or portal.Communicate with patient regarding coverage and patient responsibility.Document in the EMR all contact regarding DME to include in, waivers, etc.Maintain internal document for DME Check form.Electronically communicate patient information to insurance companiesSchedule patients for a DME item within the EMRReviewing the DME schedule for all proper documents and authorizationsExplaining to the MA/PA and the physician why information is needed to complete any of the aboveKnowledgeable and/or willing to learn the rules and regulations for paperwork and dispensing DME in a timely manner.Checking chart notes for other billable diagnosis codesObtain authorizations for all DME, if needed Maintain Excel DME tracking sheet.Ordering, stocking and inventory of suppliesOther job tasks as requested.

Sitting or standing for extended periods of timeAble to bend to assist patients with proper fitting of equipment.Use of headset with phoneRequired to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.Adherence to hospital emergency policies and proceduresMay require traveling to other locations.Participates in required activities to meet requirements for competency, training, and evaluations.
