About the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites (ISMHS): The mission of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites is to celebrate, explore and steward all that is authentically wondrous about Indiana.  The ISMHS is a forward-thinking, unparalleled resource for learning about and appreciating Indiana and its role in the world. Role Overview: The Early Childhood Intermittent Program Specialist is part of the Engagement Department at the Indiana State Museum working as assigned in early childhood programming and events to engage and interact with our youngest visitors and their families, assist with development and preparation of activities, and the collection of evaluation data. Incumbent is assigned to work both offsite and within the early childhood specific space, Firefly Landing and museum galleries to engage and interact with museum visitors during large events and special programming days, assist with visitor questions and concerns and conduct daily programming. Schedule Requirements: + Typical schedule is between the hours of 9AM – 5PM. The museum is open Wednesday-Sunday 10am-5pm, but programming occasionally occurs outside of museum hours. Some early and late hours required. Weekend availability required. + Must be available to work Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s from 9am-1pm. + 27 hrs/week, depending on availability. Salary Statement: The salary for this position is $16.73/hr. Responsibilities: + Lead outreach program with library partners by preparing materials, implement programming, evaluating lessons, and sharing information about the museum with program and library visitors and staff. + Enhance the visitor experience in the museum by engaging and interacting with visitors within the galleries including the early childhood space, Firefly landing, assisting with visitor questions and concerns, and facilitating daily programming within galleries and throughout museum with a focus on early childhood interactions + Work with the Early Childhood Program Manager to develop and implement goals, objectives and learning outcomes for early childhood public and outreach programs. + Conduct informal and formal evaluation for programs, within the galleries and Firefly Landing, and throughout the museum as appropriate for early childhood experiences + Support Visitor Services in providing a welcoming environment for all museum visitors + Provide excellent customer service to daily visitors, program participants, educators and parents + Manage customer complaints, incidents and accidents, taking the lead in emergency situations and safety issues + Maintain cleanliness and organization of program supplies for early childhood space, Firefly Landing, and outreach materials and spaces + Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications: + Must be able to work 3 or more days during the week + Experience working with children and families in an informal and/or formal environment + Must be comfortable working independently and demonstrate initiative + Experience with hands-on, interactive program development and facilitation + Strong presentation, communication and customer service skills and collaborative work ethic + Background in education, science, art and/or customer service preferred + Access to your own vehicle to travel to offsite programs Preferred Qualifications: + Bachelor’s degree preferred in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Child Development, or related field + Formal / informal teaching experience + Knowledge of Reggio Emilio inspired teaching + Knowledge of non-traditional teaching methods + Knowledge of history, art, and/or science + Ability to speak and write Spanish a plus + Experience with hands-on, interactive program development and facilitation + Strong presentation, communication and customer service skills and collaborative work ethic + Background in education, science, art and/or customer service preferred Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana: This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period Equal Employment Opportunity: The State of Indiana is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to recruiting, selecting, developing, and promoting employees based on individual ability and job performance.
