Earthquake Catastrophe Model Developer
Aon Impact Forecasting is hiring an Earthquake Catastrophe Model Developer in Prague, Czech Republic. The role includes developing earthquake model components, implementing catastrophe models, testing models, and delivering results. This role is part of Aon Impact Forecasting team, a team of scientists, developers and client services colleagues together developing and supporting catastrophe models for various perils including flood, windstorm, earthquake, wildfire or terrorism. What the day will look like + Participate in the development of all earthquake model components leading the vulnerability component (development of vulnerability curves for different construction classes and occupancies, calibration, and testing) + Participate in implementation process of IF catastrophe models into loss modelling platform ELEMENTS for earthquake and related perils such as tsunamis, liquefaction, landslides, and fire-following earthquake + Participate in the overall model testing and coordination with client’s solution team including the model delivery in accordance with the existing procedures + Bring innovation and improvements of the development, testing and implementation procedures as well as into our modelling tools and workflows + Communicate and present intermediate and final results to other Aon departments such as cat management team, brokers etc. + Deliver external presentation to clients, at conferences, etc. + Be part of the development team and be able to coordinate tasks with other members + Collaborate with other team members from different offices worldwide + Use Aon in-house software packages Skills and experience that will lead to success + Educational background in the field of seismic or earthquake engineering, civil or structural engineering at graduate or postgraduate level + Good knowledge of seismic risk assessment and usage of software like OpenQuake + Experience with vulnerability curves development + Good knowledge of programming language (e.g. Python, R, MATLAB) + Advantage of knowledge of SQL scripting and management of relational databases (e.g. in MS SQL Server) + Advantage of knowledge of machine learning + Proficiency in MS Excel and other MS Office apps + Excellent written and spoken English skills.
