We are seeking a talented individual to join our Catastrophe Modelling team at Guy Carpenter. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week at the London office.
As an Earthquake Peril Advisor, you will be part of a dynamic team of scientists and engineers that are bridging the gap from technical and academic competency in seismic risk to actionable business insights and outcomes.
The role will involve participation in multi-disciplinary and cross-functional efforts including earthquake catastrophe model evaluation, event response, risk score and tool development and product delivery alongside catastrophe modeling, global analytics and advisory and broking colleagues. Over time, and with experience, there will be opportunities to present findings and model updates to stakeholders and clients, as well as working on a range of intellectually stimulating projects.
We will count on you to:
Apply your peril expertise to evaluate the science underpinning the major catastrophe models in line with GC’s Model Suitability Analysis® framework.
Work with the Earthquake Peril Lead and regional Analytics teams to define the GC View of Risk for earthquake in the International (ex-North America) region.
Contribute to documentation and communications to publicise findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Provide ad-hoc advisory services to clients to support development of their own views of risk for earthquake.
Stay abreast of latest science and evolving trends in seismology and seismic risk assessment and where beneficial establish and maintain relationships with academic research partners and industry groups.
What you need to have:
PhD or MSc degree in seismology, engineering or equivalent, with strong statistical competency.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Experience with common programming languages (e.g. R, Python) and GIS software (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS).
What makes you stand out?
Relevant experience in the (re)insurance industry, along with a solid understanding of reinsurance concepts.
Experience with using a major vendor model (RMS or Verisk) and associated knowledge of SQL.
Familiarity with OpenQuake and other GEM products and datasets.
