The Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) is a state agency within the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS). The MPTC’s mandate and mission is to set the police training standards for all law enforcement officers certified by the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (“POST”), and to develop, deliver, and maintain a record of that training for over 20,000 police officers (municipal, MBTA, environmental, campus, hospitals), deputy sheriffs, harbormasters, constables, and other statutorily defined personnel who perform police duties and functions in the Commonwealth. These responsibilities are to be carried out in a way that ensures high quality, standardized, community-oriented training.
The MPTC’s training programs include a comprehensive, 800-hour basic recruit training program for new police officers, statutorily required annual in-service training programs, and specialized training programs. The MPTC’s academies work closely with the local municipal police departments in their respective regions and are responsive to regional training needs and requirements. The MPTC operates seven (7) regional academies and oversees ten (10) authorized academies across the Commonwealth.
The East Falmouth Academy Program Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of all in-service and specialized training at the East Falmouth, MA MPTC training facility.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinating the in-service and specialized trainings at the assigned training facility, including: creating classes in the MPTC training database; notifying departments and officers about the availability of classes; monitoring enrollment and waitlists; scheduling instructors to train; identifying lesson plans and slide decks appropriate for the training; communicating with attendees regarding scheduling and the distribution of necessary materials for the classes; setting up and breaking down classrooms; tracking attendance at the beginning and end of each class session; and developing and administering evaluation surveys at the completion of a class.Working closely and collaboratively with the training facility’s Academy Director.Keeping the training calendar for the training facility and notifying the Academy Director of any conflicts or issues.Setting up classrooms includes arranging desks, ensuring the availability of all necessary equipment, creating signage, nametags, and rosters for each class, and being present 30 minutes before each class is scheduled to begin to set up audio visual equipment and ensure everything is working properly.Being present at the close of each class includes ensuring that attendance rosters are signed, that the class completes the evaluations and answer any questions regarding training records, and that the classroom is ready for the next training session.Updating the MPTC database with information regarding completed classes to ensure an accurate training record for attendees and departments.Ensuring that in-service and specialized training is offered at the facility for a minimum of 40 weeks per fiscal year, or such other minimum as the Chief of Training approves.Seeking out new and innovative trainings to host at the MPTC training facility.Notifying departments and other agencies of available trainings as well as seeking out the training needs of departments and other agencies.Performing related duties as required and assigned.Traveling as needed depending on the operational needs of the MPTC.Preferred Qualifications:
