EBV Discovery Project Leader
Site Name: Belgium-Rixensart, Cambridge MA Posted Date: Oct 15 2024 Job purpose: As Discovery Project Leader (DPL) you are accountable for one or more discovery projects, potentially as early as from ideation up to C2C, entering the vaccine research & development pipeline. You apply scientific depth to design an appropriate research plan that addresses the key knowledge gaps in each vaccine/disease area. You apply an integrated knowledge of all aspects of the vaccines business to inform the evaluation of novel targets and to deliver Go/No-go recommendations to senior management and to governing bodies. You play a critical role in leading a global matrix team (DPT, Discovery Project Team) composed of skilled scientists and experts representing functions such as Scientific Areas, Technical R&D, Clinical, Regulatory, Commercial, etc. In this context you will set clear expectations for DPT members on required deliverables and behaviors and provide regular feedback. You contribute critically to scientific excellence and innovation within GSK Vaccines R&D through discovery activities contributing to the creation of the strategy of the Vx Research portfolio of you RD Scientific Area. You actively participate in internal and external scientific meetings creating a network of potential collaborations. Your responsibilities: Accountable for delivering new and key priority projects to the development pipeline Accountable for delivering new solutions to support life cycle of existing assets (e.g., different combinations of assets, different presentations) Contribute to the creation of the strategy of the Vx Research portfolio of your RD Scientific Area in alignment with key stakeholders inside and outside the SA (e.g., function heads, CoE heads, VDLs, Early Commercial, Medical Affairs, etc.) Lead one or more matrix cross-functional teams to evaluate medical need, value proposition and feasibility and to design and execute a research program to address key scientific knowledge gaps Produce Go/No-go recommendations on Discovery programs to governing bodies Lead research clinical studies and related activities/budget to allow early testing of Vx candidate in Ph1/2 studies Ensure high-quality scientific strategy in collaboration with DPT members Establish key external collaborations to enhance the quality of the programs in partnership with External R&D and BD Ensure appropriate and timely support to creation and protection of GSK intellectual property in collaboration with Global Patents partners Apply rigor and discipline to develop and implement harmonized processes and to ensure knowledge management of evaluation content and decisions Why You? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: Minimum Master’s degree level Minimum 5 years of experience in vaccinology, immunology, and infectious diseases EBV expertise is a must Experience in the fields of preclinical R&D, clinical development, regulatory processes, process development, intellectual property rights, business development and commercial strategies Leadership Experience Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: PhD, MD or DVM and/or postdoctoral Minimum 10 years of experience in the vaccines field Proven scientific expertise Proven people management skills Proven communication and influencing skills Capability to lead projects, impact and influence team members in the absence of direct reporting lines Proactive, creative and innovative mindset.
