The main purpose of the EC&I Engineer role is as follows;
Undertake the design, specification and technical review of electrical, control and instrumentation equipment associated with Howden fan, heat exchanger and nuclear gas circulator products. Execute projects and support sales proposals to ensure documentation and products are delivered on time, to specification and in compliance with quality requirements. Select, design and specify solutions for a wide range of electrical equipment including medium and low voltage motors and drives, equipment power distribution systems, PLC control systems and instrumentation for rotating machinery supplied to various industries within Europe including automotive and F1 wind tunnels, mine ventilation, power and carbon capture.

Take EC&I ownership of projects from the sales enquiry stage through project execution and commissioning. Work closely with Howden mechanical design engineers to design EC&I systems for OEM products. Create technical specifications to define purchased EC&I items and review supplier technical documentation. Update EC&I requirements of technical specifications produced by the Howden mechanical design engineers. Produce drawings, wiring schematics, lists and data sheets. Utilise knowledge and/or experience to provide support to other Howden engineers and departments as required. Attend customer design progress meetings for current contracts or proposals. Visit suppliers to develop agreement on cost effective and technically compliant project specific EC&I solutions. Specify requirements and attend Factory Acceptance Tests for EC&I equipment. Visit site to support commissioning activities and for equipment assessment or troubleshooting purposes.

Essential skills, knowledge & behaviours
BEng in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) Proven experience in a relevant engineering role – EC&I design and specification of large & small motors, drive packages, control systems, instrumentation. Excellent organisational and time management skills. Good verbal and written communication and motivational skills. Problem solving ability Computer literacy, competency in Microsoft 365. Knowledge of programmable systems including ladder diagrams
Desirable skills, knowledge & behaviours
IET or similar professional accreditation. Experience of High Voltage Motors specification and selection. Knowledge of EMC compliance Mechanical knowledge of aerodynamics and hydraulic systems. Experience of Power and Mining Industry specifications and standards. Experience in EPLAN software. Ability to read and understand mechanical engineering drawings.
