Echocardiograph technicians are a very specific kind of diagnostic medical sonographer dealing with the heart. Echo technicians use ultrasound devices and other imaging tools that use sound waves to create images of the heart. They inspect the chambers and walls of the heart as well as the valves. An echocardiogram can be administered externally on a patient's chest but can also be conducted by placing a tube down a patient's esophagus to get closer to the heart internally.
The ideal future caregiver is someone who:
Active Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) registry status from American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
Has experience in echo and vascular ultrasound.
Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Is empathetic.

Education:
Graduation from two (2) year cardiovascular technologist program. Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, physicians and other health care worker.Ability to empathize with patients and families.Certifications:
Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Cardiovascular Technologist (RCVT), RDCMS eligible.Complexity of Work:

5 years experience in echo and vascular ultrasound exp. preferred.Physical Requirements:
Interact with patients, families, physicians and other health care workers.Good hand coordination for positioning of probe and equipment.Good vision to analyze computer screens and VCR recordings to diagnose test results.Use good judgment in stressful emergency situations.Adequate mathematics skills to maintain accurate record and report.Physical Duties: Moderate lifting and positioning of patients.Moderate pushing and pulling of equipment.Working Conditions: 100% air-conditioned.Moderate risk of exposure to blood or air-borne pathogensPersonal Protective Equipment:
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
