The ECMO Program Lead is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating both clinical and operational programs for the ECMO program within the respiratory care department. Applies clinical, didactic, technological and other theories as appropriate. Functions as an educational, clinical, technical advisor to the junior team members and other members of the health care team. Evaluates, recommends and assists in the departmental acquisition of equipment and supplies for the program.

GENERAL DUTIES
Participates in development and management of departmental policies, procedures and guidelines as necessary assuring availability of information to all staff.
Leads, coordinates and implements new elements of ECMO programs.
Maintains proper function and maintenance of ECMO equipment. Checks function of equipment and coordinates with appropriate team when maintenance is required.
Plans and manages clinical and administrative operations of ECMO program at LCMC Health.
Utilizes evidence-based practice to contribute to the development and implementation of quality standards of practice that can guide practice improvement initiatives.
EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
5 years of Respiratory Care Critical Care experience in the pediatric/perinatal area.
3 years of experience as an ECMO Specialist.
Supervisory experience or demonstrated performance of managerial responsibilities.

Neonatal Resuscitation Program American Academy of Pediatrics
Basic Life Support Health Care Provider American Heart Association
Pediatric Advanced Life Support American Heart Association
Licensed Respiratory Therapist Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
Certification Name: Registered Respiratory Therapist National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Plan, lead, conduct educational programs and seminars for various members of the healthcare team.
Design and implement departmental monitors for various aspects of performance improvement and quality assurance.
Ability to analyze data and apply critical thinking skills.
Organizational skills necessary for implementation, maintenance and design of departmental programs.
Communication skills necessary to disseminate information effectively throughout the healthcare community.
Problem solving skills.
Ability to provide proper therapy to neonates, infants, toddlers, school age children, adolescents and young adults.
Must be proficient in all aspects of ECMO systems.
Must be proficient in all respiratory care, including equipment, therapies, disease processes.
Must be able to understand computer technology use, equipment and integration.
Must be able to understand methods used to critically analyze data for the purpose of departmental performance improvement.
Must be proficient in all aspects of ECMO systems.
Must be proficient in the use of Point of Care instruments for ACT monitoring and Blood gas monitoring.
Must understand blood banking as it relates to the ECMO Program.
Must understand the clinical and technical concepts of CVVH when incorporated into the ECMO system.
