We are seeking an Ecological Engineer with restoration design experience to join our team in our Toledo, OH office.
The projects this person will primarily work on are related to stream, wetland and habitat restoration/creation, nutrient management and water quality protection, and shoreline improvements. Our ecological restoration projects typically include early conceptual planning, site characterization and field investigation, engineering and design, and construction implementation support - giving our staff the unique experience of seeing fully realized projects from start to finish. The ideal candidate will be someone with a passion for improving natural ecosystems who enjoys diverse project experiences including office and fieldwork. This person should have relevant ecological design training/education and experience, such as natural channel design, stage 0 stream design, fluvial geomorphology training, nature-based shoreline training, or similar. The ability to use AutoCAD Civil 3D as a design tool and to develop conceptual and final design plans is also a required skill for this position. Responsibilities: Perform field assessments, stream morphological survey, and project monitoring with other team members Prepare detailed plans and specifications using Verdantas’ AutoCAD standards Serve as a technical resource for projects including developing and evaluating alternative solutions to engineering problems Support preparation of permit application packages and coordinate with reviewing agencies under guidance of Project Manager Assist with preparation of proposals including performing research, visiting sites to gather information, developing conceptual plans, outlining scope tasks and budgets and drafting proposal language under the guidance of a Project Manager or supervisor Prepare cost estimates for design implementation, including partnering with appropriate staff for quality assurance review; Perform and/or coordinate construction oversight of ecological restoration, nutrient management and water quality protection, and shoreline improvement projects; Assist Project Manager with directing work tasks assigned to project team Assist Project Manager with tracking work progress using project management tools Collect and interpret data through research, file reviews, field observations and measurements, field testing and other methods. Prepare associated reports and deliver to Project Manager for final review
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution. Ecological or Environmental Engineering degree preferred Nature-based design training, such as natural channel design, stage 0 stream design, fluvial geomorphology training, nature-based shoreline training, or similar Has Professional Engineering license or ability to obtain within six months Ability to produce construction drawings, perform basic site grading and corridor modeling utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D Excellent organizational skills including planning and executing own work tasks, as well as directing and overseeing tasks of other team members to meet project deadlines Scheduling, data management, and project file management for project calculation, models, drawings and specifications Proven technical skills including field observations, accurate measurements, mentoring staff in use and care of equipment, use of technical software and modeling programs Proven proactive communication skills both internally and externally Experience with problem solving and history of willingness to share new ideas with supporting research
