The Economic/LP Modeler purpose of the position is to determine crude values and recommend slate decisions for the Commercial Crude Supply and Trading organization with optimizing refinery crude mix and maximizing full value chain earnings for the region.  The refinery LP model will be the primary tool to provide crude values that will be used in the crude purchasing decisions for the Lake Charles, Sweeny and Bayway refineries.  The position will evaluate the economics of crudes for the refineries including relative crude values (RCVs) and breakeven values (BEVs).  The LP Modeler will perform ad hoc studies to support company initiatives.  The LP modeler will be accountable for making sure the LP model is aligned with each refineries’ current model, and reflects the current operational constraints that are established by each refinery.  The LP modeler will be accountable for key two-way communication: (1) providing technical knowledge of refinery economic drivers, constraints and operations to the Commercial organization and (2) providing market knowledge to the refineries relevant to crude selection and optimization.  The role will also help to drive company business transformation initiatives through special teams and projects.
 

Responsibilities May Include:

Developing and publishing the monthly RCV Report for Lake Charles, Sweeny and Bayway, consistent with the refining business guideline. Performing ad hoc crude evaluations for the Crude Supply Director, Crude Trader, others. Performing LP analyses of new crude opportunities. Evaluating regional opportunities to optimize cargos between Sweeny and Lake Charles. Evaluating opportunities to swap or re-optimize purchased cargos as market conditions allow. Developing and maintaining a strong working relationship with both the Lake Charles and Sweeny Planning and Economics teams, Trading, and central refining resources. Developing and maintaining a strong working relationship with the Commercial Crude organization, applicable Traders, and Regional Optimization Manager (ROM). Providing regional competitor market intelligence to the Commercial Trading organization.  This may include using additional tools HCOMETS and PRISM. 

 

Required Qualifications:

Legally authorized to work in the job posting country Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Direct refining experience in the fields of refinery economics, operations, process engineering or fuels blending/scheduling  Direct experience working with LP modeling Experience with AspenTech PIMS Program Strong understanding of downstream value chain business drivers Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PIMS Strong analytical/data management skills Must be able to quickly develop and maintain internal and external respect and trust Periodic travel is required to visit regional sites 

 
Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering Prior crude scheduling experience (refinery or Commercial) Prior refinery crude selection/optimization experience (RCV analysis) Experience with scheduling/blending models (Orion/APS) Skills and proficiency with HCAMS/HCOMET, PI/PHD Visual Basic programming experience (user level) The ability to set direction and lead – strong networking and team building skills Is willing and able to positively influence others Strong and effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills Preference is to remain in job 2-4 years
