Ed Tech III - Farm Job Code:12750 Location:Saco 04072 Department:Education Program FT/PT Status:Full Time Summary: Supports the classroom farm teacher or appropriate specialist by assisting in the planning and implementing of the instructional process and maintaining an environment conducive to learning as well as perform daily duties at the farm and in the gardens. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:** ·Maintains the Farm Feeder list, schedules farm feeders, trains new farm feeders, makes sure all weekends/holidays/school vacations are covered by farm feeders. ·Be available/on-call, along with the Farm Teacher, evenings, weekends, holidays, and school vacations to respond to farm animal emergencies. This sometimes necessitates coming to the farm outside of regular hours to deal with animal emergencies. ·Schedules annual vet visits, vaccinations, and horse dentist visits; schedules farrier appointments every 6 weeks, and liaises with the vet, dentist and farrier. ·Runs farm during the summer as the long-term substitute, which means being responsible for all animal care, gardens, and general farm maintenance. ·Along with the teacher, maintains the farm grounds, including repairing fences, clearing pastures of noxious weeds, liaising with Maintenance as needed, noting, reporting, and fixing problem areas around the farm as needed. ·Along with the teacher, runs the greenhouse program, including watering, fertilizing, seeding, planting, potting, re-potting, and transplanting as needed. ·Along with the teacher, cleans the farm bathroom and kitchen. ·Feeds livestock. ·Mucks the stalls. ·Waters the plants. ·Assists classroom teacher by reviewing and reinforcing learning previously introduced by the teacher or specialist under the direct supervision of the teacher. ·Supports the educational plan, including goals and activities, involving students in community and social programming based on individual need, scheduling and assigning instructional activities and following up on results. **EDUCATION:** ·Three (3) years post-secondary education or a combination to ninety (90) hours of approved study in an education field. **CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:** ·Maintain a valid state driver’s license. ·BHP training and certification (or willingness to be trained) ·Ed Tech III Certification **EXPERIENCE:** ·Minimum of two (2) years working in the educational technician or related field preferred. ·Documented participation with in-service training in the field of assignment. ·Keyboarding skills. **KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:** ·Knowledge in the use of office equipment and classroom computers. ·Personal characteristics and temperament suitable for working with persons with special needs. ·Ability to work with difficult-to-manage youth. ·Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with other professionals on behalf of youth and their families. ·Capacity to develop a professional orientation to child care. ·Able to relate to children with warmth and understanding, and ability to identify the needs and problems of children. ·Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. ·Ability to write simple correspondence. ·Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients and other employees of the organization.
