Edge OpenShift Engineer

Role Description: 
The Edge OpenShift Engineer would need to have at least 3-5 years of experience. In this role, you will primarily focus on administering and supporting the OpenShift Container Platform at Ford’s Edge locations (on premise). This includes building out the Clusters, managing container tenant provisioning, isolation, and capacity.

You will work directly with infrastructure as code-based automation to manage the capacity of the overall platform and deliver new capacity and capabilities as necessary. Having a strong background in Linux administration, virtualization, networking, and security will be required in successfully fulfilling this role; and in providing first class level 2 support.

Additionally, understanding application development lifecycles as well practical experience in working with continuous integration and continuous deployment tools as part of the container lifecycle will be useful.

Experience (Mandatory): Minimum 3-5 years

- Expertise with the RedHat OpenShift Container Platform.

- Expertise with Kubernetes.

- Expertise in RedHat Linux administration.

- Expertise working with Docker or similar container technologies.

- Experience with GCP cloud PAAS/IAAS technologies.

- Experience working with infrastructure as code technologies such as Terraform, Go Programming language

- Experience in Infrastructure provisioning, monitoring and Ops

 Education:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or another related field or Equivalent          

- RedHat certifications in Linux and OpenShift administration

- GCP associate certifications or higher preferred

Responsibilities:

- Manage the container platform ecosystem (installation, upgrade, patching, monitoring)

- Assist in change management of container platform for new versions of OpenShift, Hotfixes, SysAdmin tasks, etc.

- Cluster capacity management and provisioning through automation of underlying hosts

- Provides L2 Platform support – willing to work in shifts and take weekend “On-call” duties on a rotational basis

- Works with experienced team members to conduct root cause analysis of issues, review new and existing code and/or perform unit testing.

- Authors/edits system documentation/playbook(s)

- Partners with experienced team members to develop accurate work estimates on work packages.

- May serve as a mentor on procedural matters to less experienced internal and third-party team members.

- May assist experienced team members with the delegation of work packages.
