College/Department Highlights

Edith Bowen is an innovative Laboratory School committed to teaching students the Utah Core Standards using the most-effective practice. Through close collaboration with Utah State University and the experts within the college of Teacher Education and Leadership, teachers implement the most current evidence based practices. Additionally, our classrooms serve as vital elements in conducting and testing research.

Our teachers have great autonomy as they use their research, experience, and collaboration to implement ideas in their classroom. With the foundation in constructivism, our students are given opportunities to learn through inquiry, place-based learning, and creative exploration. We are supported in this by a highly experienced humanities team who helps to educate the whole child through weekly instruction in music, visual arts, Spanish, media, and movement. Through a strong philosophy of Professional Learning Communities and collaboration our humanities team and classroom teachers have built an integrated curriculum that supports student growth.

In addition to our focus on developmentally appropriate education of the whole child, we are also committed to constant improvement and progress, much of which has occurred through the support and implementation of STEAM within our school. Students are encouraged to study advanced fields through collaborative projects and hands-on learning. Edith Bowen is committed to teaching for success, not only in academic outcomes but also in the creation of lifelong learners.
