HarperNonFiction are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic editor who is passionate about lifestyle-focussed non-fiction. This is a brilliant opportunity to join a market-leading non-fiction team at an exciting time of growth. There will be the opportunity to commission, working alongside and being supported by the first-class editorial team. Key responsibilities: + Working closely with the Publisher on specific books, including structural and line editing, scheduling, running costings, compiling metadata, and writing compelling copy as required. + Building strong working relationships, across all teams and at all levels. Maintaining and building strong connections with both home and international contacts, including expert authors, editors, scouts, talent agents and literary agents. + Ensuring titles are delivered in an appropriate and timely way with all costs controlled and to budget. + Reading and reporting on submissions for the Publisher as well as beginning to build on your commissioning skills. + Researching and refining concepts for new titles and existing backlist. + Helping identify market trends, discover new voices and work with the Publisher to develop strategies for growth with a focus on building our market share in health and lifestyle non-fiction. Essential criteria: We’re looking for someone with demonstrable editorial experience and a passion for publishing books that help people live better lives. + Clear and demonstrable editorial experience in the lifestyle non-fiction market with a track record of editing market-leading books as well generating and pursuing ideas. Commissioning experience helpful but not essential. + Effective communicator, able to make convincing verbal pitches, write persuasive cover copy, brief covers with clarity, and fulfil a publishing vision for all aspects of a book’s package. + Great relationship-builder, able to work effectively across departments including Sales, Rights, Marketing and Publicity to coordinate successful publications. + Excellent organisation, time management and attention to detail, and an ability to work effectively under pressure. + Disposition: Professional, innovative, collaborative and achievement-driven.
