Cell Press is a premium brand portfolio of scientific journals. We have successfully published journals for 5 decades and are still expanding into new products and new disciplines.

We are looking for a dynamic individual with editorial and publishing expertise to lead Molecular Cell, the well-established Cell Press premier journal covering broad molecular biology-relevant research. 

About the Role
 

As the Editor-in-Chief, Molecular Cell, the established, premier, broad molecular biology relevant research journal, you assume overall responsibility for setting the journal’s scientific scope and determining its editorial direction.  You will build and lead an editorial team at the journal.  You will also be responsible for ensuring the quality and quantity of the research articles published in the journal.  You will be expected to travel to attend conferences, seminars, and scientific meetings and to build a broad network of domestic and international contacts.  The Editor-in-Chief will also need to develop and foster partnerships members of the production, marketing, press and advertising teams, as well as with other editorial teams at Cell Press, and to contribute to the overall publishing strategy of Cell Press. 

This is an exciting opportunity to shape and lead a premier journal in the molecular biology research arena which will be part of the vibrant and growing Cell Press journal portfolio. 

The position can be based in cities in the US, Europe, UK or China, where the Cell Press offices are located, and will report to a Publishing Director at Cell Press.

Responsibilities

Further refining and expanding the strategic focus of this established journal

Hiring and managing a team of scientific editors

Establishing relationships with and continuing to build the advisory board

Managing day-to-day operations at the journal

Reaching out to the community and recruiting exciting papers within the scope of the journal

Collaborating on defining production workflows, marketing, social media and website

Collaborating with editorial teams of relevant Cell Press journals


Requirements

Possess a Ph.D. in any area of molecular biology

Have 5+ years of full-time editorial experience

Possess a broad interest across the full spectrum of molecular biology research

Display an established network with the molecular biology research community

Demonstrate solid project and/or people management skills

Possess exceptional organizational skills

Display excellent written and oral communication skills

Have an interest in engaging with the scientific community

Possess previous management experience is beneficial but not required
