Responsibilities:
Democracy and Capitalism Summer Institutes (50%)
The Education and Outreach Specialist will lead the coordination of the Democracy and Capitalism Teachers Institute, a week-long, selective professional development opportunity for secondary educators taking place during summer 2025, and may contribute to additional summer institute programs the Project plans to launch in subsequent years. Duties include:
Development, delivery, administration, and evaluation of the summer institute program, including management of daily logisticsCoordinate outreach and marketing for summer institute programsCoordinate procurement or development of program materialsCoordinate a small team of staff, faculty, and students contributing to the summer institute programs, including collaboration on logistics, scheduling, curriculum development, and application processesEnsure summer institute programs align with the overall vision and goals of the Project and leading continuous feedback and evaluation processes for the programs.Educational Outreach (30%)
The Education and Outreach Specialist will coordinate various programs for K-12 educators and students throughout the academic year, including:
Coordination of field trips to UVA grounds for secondary educators and studentsCoordination of workshops (virtual or in-person) for Teachers Institute alumni (and potentially other educator audiences)Coordination of educator/student attendance or participation in other Democracy and Capitalism events or programs (conferences, public events, etc.)Maintain communication and engagement with Teachers Institute alumni.Resource Development and Management (15%)
The Education and Outreach Specialist will coordinate the development (and ongoing management) of a free, accessible database for educators designed to aggregate and curate classroom resources related to democracy, capitalism, civics, and related topics.
Other Duties (5%)
The Education and Outreach Specialist may occasionally support large-scale Democracy and Capitalism events/programs (example, on-site support for a major annual conference).
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience (six years of related experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree)Experience coordinating programs or events in a higher education settingExperience developing and implementing curriculum materials, particularly using digital platforms.Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related fieldCoursework (undergraduate or graduate level) in related topics, such as public policy, education, history, economics, political science, or adjacent fieldsDemonstrated interest in developing materials and resources for K-12 educators and studentsExperience teaching in a K-12 classroom setting or working with K-12 educators.Salary Range
The anticipated salary range for this position is $52,000.00-62,000.00, depending on qualifications.

Physical Demands
The job requires daily computer use and occasional walking, standing, and minor physical tasks (ex. setting tables for an event, walking with Institute participants between event locations, and managing storage of Institute materials weighing 20 pounds or less). Occasional travel may be required.
Additional Position Information
The Project on Democracy and Capitalism offers a flexible and hybrid workplace. This position is eligible for remote work although in-person presence in our Charlottesville, Virginia office is sometimes required. All team members must have access to and maintain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet service. This is a full time, exempt level position eligible for UVA benefits.
