Facility Information

Woodruff Manor is an 88-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility that has provided care to the Woodruff community since 1987. Our compassionate team has the training and expertise to provide the individualized patient care needed during a stay. The team includes an attending physician, nurse practitioner, registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, licensed practical nurses and certified nursing assistants — all working together to provide a positive and caring environment.

Total # of beds: 88 beds Average patient age: Adult Patient Services: long-term care and short-term rehabilitation Case Types: psychiatric / memory care, diabetic care, dialysis care as well as foley catheters, trachs, and PEG tubes

 

Position Summary

The Education Coordinator directs, administers, organizes, implements and evaluates facets of departmental operations, including orientation and nursing orientation for new associates, as well as orientation for all health science student; assists all departments in orientation for new associates and with annual competencies; coordinates associate and resident education; facilitates and/or teaches including, but not limited to, associate continuing education classes or courses; provides consultation for employees in clinical and non-clinical areas to ensure a safe environment for residents, families and other employees; assists with development of physician orientation and training; and communication with Nursing Center physicians and associates. This position also promotes clinical excellence and practice in conjunction with local schools of nursing; works with Clinical Liaison for Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System to coordinate efforts for assisting with orientation of university students and faculty, developing new programs and relationships with schools, consultation and research. Is able to administer and deliver medications and treatments as prescribed by an authorized licensed provider as needed.

 

The Education Coordinator position also assists and consults with Employee Health for all associates as directed by the SRHS Employee Health Director. This may include but not limited to: pre-employment screening, health assessments, immunization assessments, drug screens, and the annual associate employee health visit/screening.  This position may also assist with the collection of data as related to associate injuries in compliance with OSHA and Workman’s Compensation related policies and procedures in consultation with the Human Resource Department and as needed the Occupational Health Department.

 

Minimum Requirements

Education           

Nursing, Associates Degree

Experience        

Strong computer skills with accuracy in typing; ability to coordinate and file (electronically and paper) alphabetically; excellent professional communication skills

License/Registration/Certifications       

License from an approved nursing program (Registered Nurse)

 

Preferred Requirements

Preferred Education      

BSN or MSN

Preferred Experience   

1+ year work experience in educational development or leadership in a skilled nursing setting

Preferred License/Registration/Certifications   

Infection prevention certification or similar

 

Core Job Responsibilities

Clerical:

Responsible for communicating and reporting to Administrator, Director of Nursing, Nursing Supervisors, and all Department Manager, Associates Greets and directs residents, family, caregivers, and guests in a professional and respectful manner Uses the correct telephone protocol in answering calls; direct calls to the appropriate persons in a timely manner; ensure phone messages are legible and distribute promptly; adheres to the policy for utilization of paging system Assists Supervisors, Director of Nursing, and Charge Nurse with other duties (i.e., filing, updating manuals, etc.) Positively and professionally assists as a resource person and liaison for physicians and other departments Positively and professionally assists as a resource person to the Director of Nursing, Nursing Home Administrator, Supervisors in obtaining resident diagnostic tests results. Ensures reports are filed accurately

Organizational: 

Monitors and controls noise at desk to ensure professional conduct and appearance; Maintains a clean, neat, and organized desk area to facilitate workflow, ensuring confidential and PHI information is properly secured Coordinates all the annual competencies for all associates in coordination with the Director of Nursing and Nursing Home Administrator and other departments as required.

Equipment: 

Skilled in data entry – Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel Skillfully operate and maintain computer, printer, and fax machines; telephone system

Quality:

Routinely maintains standards of the Long-Term Care, CMS (Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services) and other licensing and regulatory agencies Demonstrates practice to maintain a safe environment and reports safety issues for residents, visitors, co-workers, and self Recognizes risk management situations and reports them in a timely manner Promptly reports equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel; uses chain of command when reporting problems/concerns Demonstrates compliance with policies regarding HIPAA and resident confidentiality, confidentiality of facility information and residents’ rights and responsibilities; demonstrates knowledge of the purpose of the Ethics Committee, including referral process Successfully completes initial orientation and annual required computerized training, competencies and annual health evaluation

Development:

Attends unit staff meetings, applying knowledgeable of facility’s policies and procedures, medical terminology and specific services of departments Coordinates policies and procedures pertaining to associate education. Identifies and actively supports positive relations within team and across department lines; maintains an open and positive attitude by a willingness to participate in new initiatives
