Responsibilities

As the Education Specialist for Bronx and Manhattan, you will work on behalf of children and families regarding their early development through 5th grade to ensure they are supported and reaching their full potential.

 

What You’ll Do

Work on behalf of all children through the end of 5th grade, providing advocacy to ensure they are receiving the supports/services they need to succeed. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with schools; provide advocacy on behalf of students.Work with Case Planner, foster parent, birth parent/caregiver and tutor to address educational concerns.As needed, request referrals for IEP evaluations and behavioral/academic supports within the schoolNegotiate with DOE staff to ensure the implementation of recommended and appropriate educational services.Ensure school stability if a student is relocating homes.Collect, review, and track NYC DOE monthly data on attendance, grades, promotion status, school enrollment, tutoring history, etc.Use data to identify and support struggling students.Work with Case Planners and parents to ensure improved attendance, and/or provide additional academic support.During the Middle School application process, the Education Specialist will ensure that when applying for middle school, the list of schools the student is submitting are quality, best-fit schools, and will record this list of schools in the online platform.It is the responsibility of the Specialist to try to guide the process as much as possible. This includes establishing trust, explaining why the process is so important, and providing information/guidance when a selection may not be appropriate.Follow up regularly with Tutors regarding the students’ performance, needs, and any concerns.Responsible for supporting documents when submitting tutoring invoices to finance. Connect students to afterschool and summer extracurricular activities. Qualifications

All candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree with some education related experience. Other qualities that would be preferred include:

Work Environment:

Remote two days a week with the expectation of in office or in the office or in the field at school visits 3 days per week.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Monday through Friday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. The candidate is expected to report to either the Harlem office or the Bronx office depending on who they are meeting with and supporting.

Authorized to work in the U.S.Ability to travel to other Rising Ground sites (if required)
