Overview Summary: Designs, develops, coordinates and conducts training programs for medical providers and personnel on medical coding and documentation related topics. Including ICD 10 diagnosis coding, CPT 4 procedure coding, medical terminology, billing compliance and third party carrier reimbursement policy issues. Creates training programs, including text handouts, tests, and classroom exercises. Determines training objectives and is responsible for initial plan and design of class material as well as enhancing existing courses. Update training at a minimum of once a year to account for industry changes. Publish coding and billing newsletter as issues and trends area identified. Responsibilities: Prepare, conduct and/or assign annual and periodic refresher training to all providers on the topics of Evaluation & Management coding/documentation, Teaching Physicians documentation guidelines and Billing Compliance. Prepare and conduct special and/or advanced educational/training sessions as necessitated by changes in carrier coding/reimbursement policies, coding/documentation deficiencies, or problematic reimbursement issues. Conduct CPT-4 and ICD-10 coding/reimbursement training for business groups and satellites personnel. Topics to include procedural and diagnosis coding, teaching physician documentation guidelines, E&M documentation guidelines, and specialty-specific coding issues. Research payer policies, audit charts or notes, and apply coding and billing concepts to complex or new scenarios to provide Business Groups, Pre-Admission Specialists, and Physicians guidance on proper coding and billing. Conduct annual and periodic refresher training to all providers on the topics of Evaluation & Management coding/documentation, Teaching Physicians documentation guidelines and Billing Compliance. Determine training objectives of new classroom offerings. Prepare all training material and update on an annual basis. Publish periodic newsletter with coding and billing information for providers and staff. Assist management with research and analysis for special reimbursement projects. Qualifications Qualifications: Experience Requirements: 5 years Healthcare related experience – Required 1-year medical billing/claims experience including coding, medical terminology, and third-party reimbursement – Preferred 1 year Management information systems and medical software – Required Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent - Required Bachelors - Preferred Four (4) years combination of medical billing and/or healthcare-related experience can substitute for a degree. CPC-1 certification required within one (1) year of hire Additional Specialty certification required within one (1) year of hired Additional Duties: Additional duties as assigned may vary.
