The Educator, Patient & Community Education reports to the Manager, Patient and Community Education. The Educator promotes patient, family, staff and community empowerment through education; provides comprehensive patient and family education for those being treated at KCC as well as to the community. The individual assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the most current and cost effective educational materials, programs, and processes for patients and families; provides educational tools and develops programs in collaboration with Cancer Center staff; trains staff and volunteers.
Responsibilities:
Assesses the teaching-learning needs of patients, families and staff at the Cancer Center and the community. Ensures that educational materials are the most current and appropriate for individuals of varied ages, reading levels, languages and cultures. With the assistance of other KCI/KCC departments, ensures that information about community resources is available and current for patients, family and staff. Assists with the development and/or adaptation of patient and community education activities, materials, programs and processes into evidence-based educational materials, programs and processes for a variety of audiences and settings. Assists with or teaches educational (patient and community) classes and offerings including class instructor/volunteer training.
Bachelor degree required.
Masters degree in public health or current Michigan license to practice as a registered nurse preferred.
Three years of relevant experience required.
Knowledge in adult learning principles preferred. Fluency in Microsoft Word required. Knowledge of PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher and Excel preferred.
