EEG Technologist Trainee
Under close supervision, receives training and instruction in performing electroencephalographic examinations and/or epilepsy monitoring. Learns to perform electroencephalographic examinations on patients of all ages. Keeps equipment in clean operating condition. Compiles and forwards charge slips for billing purposes as required. **Responsibilities:** + Receives training and instruction in the form of performing electroencephalographic examinations on patients in the laboratory or at the patient's bedside and Intensive Care Units. + Applies suitable electrodes on predetermined measured positions and selecting appropriate montages. + Calibrates and adjusts equipment. + Observes patients with video and digital recording equipment. Ensures EEG and tape are lined up exactly. + Checks focus, lighting and microphone. + Abstracts relevant patient information from clinical record and obtains additional information by questioning. + Maintains equipment in clean, operating condition. + Applies electrodes, respiration monitors and EKG. + Compiles and forwards charge slips for billing purposes as required. + Other duties as assigned. **Education:** + High School Diploma or GED required. + Knowledge of physical and biological sciences normally attained through high school course work with emphasis in those areas. + Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. **Certifications:** + Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or obtained within one month of hire. **Complexity of Work:** + All employees are expected to meet the standards of performance outlined in the Organizational-Wide Competencies listed below as applied to the position: World Class Service Orientation: Includes attitude, behavior, interpersonal skill, and problem solving that enable an employee to respond to internal and external customer needs and expectations in a positive manner. + Adaptability: Includes teamwork and flexibility needed to fulfill job responsibilities including adapting to changes in work environment and accepting supervisory feedback. + Efficiency and Effectiveness: Includes quantity and quality of desired work, as well as organization skills necessary to perform successfully. + Essential Job Requirements: Includes adherence to all relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines affecting the work environment, including maintenance of required competencies and communication skills. + Supervisory Responsibilities (if applicable): Includes overall accountability for assigned work group relative to operational goals, personnel requirements, and budgetary constraints. + Note: The above stated duties are intended to outline those functions typically performed by individuals assigned to this classification. This description of duties is not intended to be all inclusive nor to limit the discretionary authority of supervisors to assign other tasks of similar nature or level of responsibility. **Work Experience:** + Minimum six months direct patient care experience. + One year post-secondary education may substitute for experience. **Physical Requirements:** + A high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a PC, normal or corrected vision, extensive sitting and frequent walking, occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds. + Ability to assist with positioning and transporting patients, i.e., pushing beds, carts, and wheelchairs. + Ability to maneuver equipment and motor coordination to operate equipment. **Personal Protective Equipment:** + Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
