Within UAA, the Halbert and Nancy Robinson Center for Young Scholars (RC) at the University of Washington is a leader in the nation for developing programs that serve highly capable young pre-college and college students. Through access to early entrance programming, the RC prepares younger students for college, providing them with challenging and accelerated learning opportunities in a vibrant, intellectual community setting. The RC provides outreach through summer and Saturday student enrichment, educator professional learning, and online engagement opportunities. The Robinson Center Early Entrance Program (EEP) and UW Academy (Academy) Academic Adviser/Coach will guide and support students in exploring, questioning, and navigating the events and significance of their undergraduate education. They will provide academic planning services and support for students, including helping students explore academic opportunities and working with students to connect their personal strengths and interests with curricular (including co- and extra-curricular) experiences. The primary function is to provide academic counseling, program delivery, lead the areas of new student and family orientation services and the TS and Academy Peer Mentor program, and work primarily with students who are exploring and undecided or preparing for entrance into a major, and those on pre-professional paths. Advise and assist students, in a variety of direct advising settings (1:1, drop-in, group, remote), in understanding academic options, degree requirements, and university policies and procedures. The RC has an outstanding opportunity for a dynamic, service-oriented, and student-centered individual to join our team as an EEP/Academy Academic Adviser/Coach. Reporting to the Associate Director, the EEP/Academy Academic Adviser/Coach will have the following responsibilities: **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Academic Coaching, Advising, and Student Support (50%) + Review and monitor College Academic Distribution Requirements (CADRs) for each student and provide evidence to Admissions when they have been fulfilled so a student may declare a major. + Provide pre-major student advising meetings as per the Center’s proactive advising model. Topics discussed at these meetings include social-emotional adjustment to the University, academic progress and challenges, major selection, and progress on academic requirements. + Provide daily drop-in advising for students, as well as scheduled one-on-one appointments, and family meetings when requested. + Initiate meetings with students not meeting academic standards; + Intervene with academically struggling students until they meet standards; + Encourage students by recognizing accomplishments and continue coaching by setting new goals. + Provide general support and referrals when appropriate; + Provide academic coaching support to Transition school students based on self or staff referral. + Support EEP/ACAD student engagement in experiential learning and other opportunities in collaboration with the EEP/ Academy Team. + Complete student notes and paperwork to track progress. + Monitor student satisfaction with services through a variety of assessment tools and provide updates and recommendations for improvements. + Compile statistics, reports (quarterly grade reports), and provide analysis of student and program trends, student progress, graduation, and other related topics.Program Delivery (35%): + Oversee daily operations of EEP/Acad Study hours, including supervising tutoring staff and engaging with all student participants. + Create or update curriculum for EEP/Acad yearly course sequence. + In collaboration with the EEP/Academy Team, lead the new student and family orientation services which includes coordinating and presenting family and student orientations, quarterly family check-in events, and assist in organizing and developing academic support services. + Prepare new students to navigate the systems of the University by teaching them how to register online, apply for financial aid and scholarships, how to choose courses, and contact faculty. + Develop or promote UW workshops for students on academic and career related topics. + Attend event and programs for RC student populations. + Serve as instructor of record for academic success courses such as General Studies 297 and 391 between 1 and 2 times per academic year. Academic success courses promote academic success by facilitating students’ engagement in their own learning. Specifically, the purpose of these is to ensure that students are better able to gain new insight into academic fields of study available to them at UW, including approaches to working in the field and career opportunities. (Teaching these courses is a part of this position’s regular duties, does not authorize additional compensation, does not require nor confer a faculty title, and is subject to UWHR policies (e.g., student complaint resolution)). + Serve as the lead contact for DRS and other student academic support programs. + Establish and maintain professional relationships with campus partners, faculty, and student groups to enhance services.Admissions (10%): + As part of the team, this position reads and evaluates applications to the Academy for Young Scholars Program + Contributes to final selection of Academy students + Assists with Transition School admissions interviews as needed + Assists with and attends outreach events in the community as needed + Represents the Robinson Center and UW to the community.Committee participation (5%): + Participate in Robinson Center, UAA, and other campus meetings and committees as needed; + Other related duties as assigned. **This position will demonstrate and integrate the following UAA Competencies:** Accountability and IntegrityRace, Equity, and DifferenceConstituent FocusCollaboration and TeamworkAdditional Competencies:Conflict ManagementInterpersonal SavvyProblem Solving and Decision Making **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS** + Master's degree in education, student affairs, counseling, psychology, social work, or related field. + 2-3 years of experience with student counseling, teaching, or related experience _Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration._ **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS** + Strong interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication skills + Proven ability to handle confidential information discreetly + Proficient in Microsoft Office **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS** + Experience working with adolescents and families + Experience with working with pre-major or students exploring majors + Experience providing social-emotional support + Knowledge of UW Undergraduate requirements, EARS, and DARS + UW advising experience + Washington State driver's license **CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT** + This is a 12-month appointment, Monday-Friday, normal business hours; + This position works in an office setting, but due to the nature of the program, the office is often loud.
