Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

This position is responsible for promoting a safe work environment for all employees. Duties include facilitating and communicating Safety programs and policies. Work closely with corporate safety. Develop, implement and enforce site specific programs based on corporate safety policies, standards and procedures. Develops and conducts employee safety training. Investigates accidents, and recommends corrective and preventive action.  Maintain compliance with laws, codes and regulations, seeking advice corporate Safety Management Services as necessary. 

Key Responsibilities

Following corporate and/or local policies, standards and procedures:

Ensures effective delivery of  all safety  and related training and education programs and maintain records Develop, implement and track annual site safety plan actions. Develops and maintain plant emergency response plans and ensure appropriate training Maintains metrics of plant safety performance and provide quarterly reporting Works with leadership to set annual targets for injury reduction, and drive necessary actions to meet or exceed targets Attends quarterly division/corporate safety meetings and calls representing the interest of the plant Works with internal and external groups to coordinate industrial and chemical hygiene, safety, health and environmental audits/ inspections.  Conducts training as needed to ensure compliance with all applicable EPA and OSHA standards and maintain all OSHA logs and required recordkeeping required by regulation. Leads investigation of work-related injuries and in conjunction with supervisors/managers, facilitate action planning to prevent reoccurrence Coordinates reporting, tracking, and trend analysis of workplace injuries when they occur and ensure corporate reporting standards are followed Maintains existing SDS system and ensure new materials and products have appropriate MSDS sheets and training. Performs analysis and recommends improvements to equipment and processes to improve safety and prevent accidents. Conducts ergonomic evaluations in office and lab areas independently or with support from experienced consultant, and implements cost effective solutions Works with vendor to ensure emergency response and first aid training is conducted Manages corporate safety site audits and ensure timely corrective action for discrepancies Coordinates ISO14001 Management System to ensure compliance  

 

 

Experiences/Education - Required Bachelor’s degree in technical field (e.g. Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or equivalent related experience) 3-5 years of experience in an S&E role Extensive knowledge of S&E regulations Strong computer skills; proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint Knowledge of ISO14001 certification process Excellent verbal and written communication skills Experiences/Education - Desired Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) Certified Green Belt S&E work experience in a laboratory Experience with risk and statistical analysis Project management experience

 

 

Travel Requirements: minimal - 5%.
