The DuPont Spruance site in Richmond, VA, has an immediate opening for an Occupational Health Specialist who will be an integral part of the Site Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team. The successful candidate will provide Occupational Health (OH) and Industrial Hygiene (IH) competency, oversight, guidance and leadership and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and DuPont Corporate Standards. Monitors, audits, leads and provides consulting for maintaining a proactive Plant specific program to achieve Plant EH&S goals and objectives. Jointly accountable to the Production Leader and EH&S Leader. Provides hands-on Occupational Health / Industrial Hygiene activities for the Spruance Plant. This position will report to the Spruance Site EH&S Leader.
The DuPont Spruance site is a large, multi-business, complex manufacturing and R&D site that produces NOMEX®, KEVLAR®, and TYVEK®. There are many highly hazardous processes on the site, which are governed by OSHA, EPA, DEQ and NFPA regulations.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the site industrial hygiene programs (including biological monitoring) and implement detailed, task level, day to day Occupational Health / Industrial Hygiene programs, utilizing the OH / IH work process, standards and procedures.
Acts as the Plant resource for related OH/ IH information on procedures, guidelines and standards to promote a safe and healthy workplace and minimize the potential for exposure to physical, chemical and biological hazards.
Provide guidance as a subject-matter expert for OH / IH issues.
Perform and document employee exposure risk assessments for chemicals, noise, ergonomics, radiation, and other OH / IH - related items.
Develop corrective measures to control health hazards by either eliminating or reducing the exposure.
Coach teams and individuals on OH / IH related tasks and activities.
Assists in developing and achieving area or plant OH / IH goals.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate OH/IH policy requirements.
Performs / coordinates certain OH / IH routine and non-routine monitoring (with assistance from the plant aligned H&S Coordinator for scheduling and identifying non-routine), including monitoring strategy, data collection, analyzing and reporting for the Plant.
Responsible for managing OH / IH monitoring equipment and returning it in a timely manner.
Coordinates, schedule and lead first-party audits in the OH / IH affected areas
As required leads / participates in and documents investigations of OH / IH incidents and ensures follow up actions to prevent re-occurrences are addressed
Coordinates with OH / IH Experts and Health Services to assign medical surveillance requirements to affected employees.
Ensure compliance with radiation safety requirements as Site Radiation Safey Officer
Provide support for Workers Compensation cases when needed.
Your Qualification Profile:
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene or a a related technical field, or other equivalent experience required.
2+ years of industrial hygiene / occupational health work experience
5+ years of experience working in a manufacturing facility (chemical industry is preferred).
Credentialed as a certified industrial hygienist (CIH) under the Board of Global EHS Credentialing/American Board of Industrial Hygiene. If not currently credentialed, progressing toward credential is preferred
Experience as a Radiation Safety Officer preferred
Experience in workplace risk assessments required
