EHS Engineer

Hexcel is currently seeking a EHS Engineer for our Salt Lake City, UT, USA, Matrix location.

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:

Collaborate with operations and support groups to establish and maintain a safe work environment through effective coaching of personnel in the importance of following safe work practices, ensuring health and safety concerns are addressed, and taking appropriate action when deficiencies are identified.Maintain regulatory compliance and compliance with health and safety standards through frequent inspections and audits of the plant.  Ensure that relevant procedures are regularly reviewed and remain current. Provide emergency response and incident support.  Assist in investigations to identify root causes and robust corrective actions to understand and address barriers to a zero-incident culture.  Drive closure of corrective actions in a timely manner post-incident.Participate in project reviews, document reviews, and operational readiness reviews to ensure environmental, health, and safety issues are addressed.Support Hazop/FMEA’s for a PSM regulated plant.Support the management system certifications by maintaining and improving relevant local procedures and practices.  Implement best practices to promote continuous safety improvement.  Perform analysis of results to trend data and identify opportunities for improvement.Work through others to provide timely resolution for health and safety concerns by defining the issue, working with stakeholders in establishing action plans and priorities, expediting repair, and providing technical assistance where needed.Aid plant/site in the prevention of serious injury by reviewing conditions with operations, maintenance, and engineering in the issuance of permits for hot work, confined space entry, excavation, and emergency bypass.Work with supervision to ensure HazCom requirements are implemented and followed to protect employees by monitoring exposure to hazardous chemicals, specifying personal protective equipment and defining engineering controls through the practice of effective hazard assessments.  Ensure that current SDSs are on file and verify training for those working with chemicals is conducted through frequent audits of the process.Lead Industrial Hygiene efforts for the plant

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in an EHS-related field of studyIndustrial Hygiene experience preferred.2+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing or chemicals industries.Familiar with and can accurately interpret OSHA regulations including, but not limited to, confined space entry, control of hazardous energy, hazard communication, radiation safety, personal protective equipment, hazard assessments, respiratory protection, bloodborne pathogens, powered industrial trucks, electrical safety, working at heights, contractor safety, radiation, and other applicable standards as they may apply.Self-motivated; possess excellent interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability. Must work well in a team environment and be able to interface with employees daily.  Must be able to speak in public effectively, provide presentations to groups of employees, and influence employees to be safe and contribute to a safe culture.Professional Certification preferred (e.g. CIH, CSP, ASP, CRSP).  PSM experience preferred. Maintain expertise in the health and safety field through a personal program of continuing technical study and attendance at professional seminars on an annual basis.  Must demonstrate ability to obtain professional certification such as ASP, CSP, CIH, or CHMM and maintain professional certification once obtained.
