Scope: Responsible for ensuring Smith & Wesson's compliance with all applicable Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) regulations and requirements; ensuring successful implementation and integration of all EH&S programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Ensuring compliance with all EH&S programs, policies and procedures across all locations
* Conducting EH&S inspections and program audits
* Conducting risk hazard assessments and implementing recommended controls
* Investigating work related injuries, incidents, compliance events and serious near misses
* Purchasing and maintaining safety and environmental supplies
* Providing EH&S support at or for other locations as requested
* Providing 24-hr access and availability for incident response
* Responding to EH&S concerns raised by employees
* Trains and advises the plant employees, contractors and visitors regarding all Company EHS policies and programs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations
* Serve as the Company's radiation and laser safety officer (all sites) and conducting all related activities
* Supporting all technical and tactical aspects of the Hazardous Waste Program
* Maintaining the SDS database for Springfield and other locations as needed
* Helping the department to reach all Company EH&S goals and objectives
* Conducting new hire orientation and other EH&S training as necessary

Competencies and Skills:
* Strong working knowledge of all subparts to 29 CFR 1910 OSHA as they apply to a manufacturing environment
* Must be able to manage appointed Health & Safety programs with minimal supervision
* Ability to complete projects as assigned, independently or as a team, in a timely manner
* Must be able to communicate in English verbally and in writing (basic verbal instructions, simple written memos and instructions
* Ability to acquire EH&S certifications as necessary
* Strong computer skills required -- Microsoft Office applications, Gensuite and JJKeller
* Strong problem solving skills
* Proven ability to identify, investigate, correct, and document potential environmental, health and safety non-conformances
Education and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety or similar field
* 0-4 years EH&S experience, preferably working in a manufacturing environment
* Experience in facilities/maintenance preferred
* Experience with risk management carriers preferred
* Experience with fire department and building code regulations preferred
* Experience with ergonomics assessments and implementing controls preferred
* Experience with Workers' Compensation claims preferred
Physical Demands:
* Occasional: bending, kneeling, squatting, standing, walking, reaching, overhead reaching, and fine motor skills
* Maximum lifting: to 30 pound
* Frequent lifting: 5 to 20 pounds
* Occasional lifting: 20 to 30 pounds.

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:
Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. Work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continuous exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continuous exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards.
* The following Personal Protective Equipment is required:
* Safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection and composite-toed safety shoes required when on manufacturing floor
* The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
