EHS Lead (Environment, Health & Safety)
Site Name: UK - Hertfordshire - Ware Posted Date: Jan 20 2025 The EHS Team at Ware are responsible for providing the campus with a framework to effectively manage Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) risks. This incorporates a wide range of issues including: assessment of EHS risk; formulation of policies and procedures to comply with legal & company standards; setting of EHS aims and targets; performance monitoring; environmental / waste management; emergency planning; incident and accident investigation and crisis management. Job Purpose: We are seeking an experienced Professional to join a high performing team on one of GSK’s flagship sites. As EHS Lead you will bring unquestioned EHS technical proficiency to the role and a demonstrable ability to drive continuous EHS improvement and risk reduction. You will develop a truly engaging EHS culture where everyone works together to reduce risks in an environment which allows people to be at their best. You will be experienced in managing successful EHS programmes. The successful applicant will be responsible for overall management and improvement of EHS performance across the campus, working with the EHS Director and other team members as appropriate. There are a number of direct reports into the position (circa 4 to 6, including perm and interim/contract-worker staff), and you will also act as deputy for the Ware Campus EHS Director (as needed). Key Responsibilities (include); Responsible for delivery of an array of complex site-wide safety improvement projects to reduce risk of harm. Responsible for sponsoring and driving the use of the GSK Production System, identifying and leading Continuous Improvement Frameworks to deliver safety performance targets. Planning, implementation and managing the sustain phase of new H+S Management System(s). Provide advice and support to the site (campus) on EHS matters in supporting the site business plan. Help set EHS objectives and targets, performance monitoring, Emergency planning, Incident and Accident investigation, Crisis Management and EHS Auditing Responsible for highly effective communications with all employees within the work area, to build understanding, alignment and engagement Along with the EHS Director establish and manage EHS policies and procedures, organise audits and training programmes to promote and assess compliance profile. Provide a safe working environment for all staff across the site. Be responsible for providing expertise and guidance to site by planning, organising, managing and directing EHS resource for the Ware site ensuring that all processes, activities and improvement programmes are fully compliant both with GSK Standards and with UK/European Legislative requirements. In respect of Living Safety, provide clear leadership, development and direction by building capabilities across EHS team and in the wider business to sustain the improvements identified Responsibility for delivery of linked EHS targets including regulatory and GSK inspections and audits, and incident investigations. We are particularly interested in hearing from experienced professionals with NEBOSH certification (either at Certificate or Diploma level) and those with a background in engineering compliance, permit to work and machinery safety / LOTO. About You: This role would suit a self-motivated person who has strong experience of working in an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) role. You will also be resilient and calm under pressure. Strong people skills and a proven ability to influence people to achieve objectives and drive performance are considered fundamental to the role. You will also have a strong continuous improvement mindset. About Ware Manufacturing Site: We are co-located with our R&D colleagues and recently opened a new, state-of-the-art oral solid dose facility at Ware. At this location our scientists, technicians and engineers (from R&D and Global Supply Chain – GSC) work collaboratively together (using the latest technologies) to rapidly knowledge transfer and deliver GSK’s most innovative, medicines faster and more efficiently. On site we produce over 60 million respiratory inhalers each year with growing demand in future years. The site also processes Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) for use both on site and other manufacturing sites in our network. CLOSING DATE for application: Monday 3rd of February 2025 (COB) Basic Qualifications: Relevant experience of working in a highly regulated technical industry with relevant qualifications in Scientific or Technical discipline (or strong equivalent experience).
