Role Summary

As the Site EHS Leader at WITEC (Wabtec India Technology and Engineering Center), the successful candidate will work closely with senior management, facilities, and operations teams to provide leadership and coaching in creating a proactive approach to safety and health in the workplace.

As a member of the WITEC Leadership Team, you will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing an effective health, safety, and loss prevention program for the site. This includes outlining and implementing various training programs on employee safety procedures and accident prevention. You will ensure that sound safety and health management systems are in place, anticipating, recognizing, and evaluating safety and health hazards, assisting with problem-solving, and continuously improving the performance of the site's safety and health systems. This position will be visible and interact with all employees concerning health and safety, assessing hazard conditions, and implementing practices to reduce those hazards. You will develop a proactive and collaborative approach at the site to create a healthy and safe working environment.

Brief Overview of the Site

The WITEC site is based out of Bangalore, India, and is a hub of cutting-edge technology and innovation. With over 1,400 employees, the site comprises two main facilities: an office and a dedicated lab for testing and validation.

The lab facility is the heart of WITEC's operations, where the company's electrical, thermal, vibration, and mechanical validation processes take place. This state-of-the-art lab is equipped with advanced equipment and technologies to ensure the highest standards of product quality and safety.

Job Requirements

Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety and hazardous communication programs and systems to ensure a safe work environment and a culture of zero accidents.

Track safety performance, investigate incidents, and develop training programs to improve safety.

Create and maintain Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and conduct safety-related training programs.

Assist in developing written policies and procedures for safety programs, emergency evacuation, and safety communication.

Demonstrate strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including suppliers.

Identify root causes of incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Coordinate and conduct periodic safety audits, hazard assessments, and inspections to address unsafe practices and conditions.

Provide safety and health input for new workplace projects to address issues before startup.

Collaborate with HR to develop a safety training program for onboarding and site awareness.

Provide EHS support for facility equipment, including periodic audits and upkeep of safety-critical systems such as the fire system, building management system, etc.

Manage the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Ergonomics inventory, issue based on risks, and ensure timely replacement.

Manage the chemicals inventory, ensure safe storage, issue, and disposal.

Conduct mandatory compliance checks and review all correspondence required by regulatory agencies, including regulatory reporting requirements and any environmental reporting.

Develop and maintain the Site Emergency Response Procedure.

Operationalize Wabtec EHS Management System elements, support MOC safety process, and conduct Red Flag Reviews for test rigs and new equipment.

Assist operations and engineering on matters related to ergonomics and continuous improvements.

Handle the Contractor Work Permit process, assessing contractor execution risks and issuing permits with appropriate safety requirements.

Carry out site deployment of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) processes, ensure availability of LOTO kits, etc.

Compile monthly EHS metrics of leading indicators (trainings completed, audits carried out, etc.) and lagging indicators (incidents, near-misses).

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in safety engineering science or a related discipline.

Minimum 12 years of experience in a safety role, with strong laboratory and facility safety management background.

What about the physical demands of the job?

Ability to work in both office and lab environments.

Ability to stand/walk for an 8-hour period.

Present in the office on all working days and occasionally on non-working days as per need. Remote work is not available.

Ability and willingness to travel as required.

Relocation will be provided for deserving candidate.
