Job DescriptionIn this position, you will have the exciting opportunity to lead the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) function for O-I's newest glass container manufacturing facility enabled by MAGMA technology in Bowling Green, KY. You will be responsible for the development and execution of all elements required to enable our new operating models that deliver safety, quality and cost effectiveness that can also be replicated to future operations. You will develop and execute strategies to foster a culture of safety leadership that engages plant teammates in collectively delivering world-class performance and compliance. The EHS processes will be led in close collaboration with O-I’s broader EHS teams and local resources to ensure all our teammates go home in the same or better condition in which they arrived. In this position you will have the opportunity to work in a cross-functional team in partnership with plant leadership, closely linked with all plant teammates, to support world class safety and performance.
Responsibilities:
1. Environmental Compliance:
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, including air quality, water discharge, waste management, and hazardous materials handling.Lead sustainability initiatives to minimize the environmental impact of manufacturing processes.Prepare and submit required environmental reports and maintain related records.2. Health & Safety Programs:
Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs, including hazard assessments, training, and emergency preparedness.Oversee safety audits, risk assessments, and root cause analysis of incidents to identify and mitigate hazards.Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards, maintaining proper documentation.3. Training & Development:
Provide EHS training to all employees, contractors, and supervisors to promote awareness and compliance.Develop training materials for new hires, ongoing safety updates, and specialized programs (e.g., confined space entry, lockout/tagout, PPE use).4. Incident Investigation & Reporting:
Lead investigations into workplace incidents, accidents, or near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective/preventive actions.Track and analyze incident data to identify trends and recommend improvements.5. EHS Leadership:
Partner with site leadership to integrate EHS considerations into all operations and decision-making.Serve as a resource and advisor to managers, supervisors, and employees on EHS matters.Act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, consultants, and auditors during inspections or inquiries.6. Continuous Improvement:
Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance EHS performance and culture.Monitor industry trends and technologies to improve EHS programs and standards.Develop and track key EHS performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success.7. Emergency Response Management:
Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures, including fire safety, chemical spills, and natural disasters.Coordinate regular emergency drills and ensure readiness of emergency response teams.Qualifications
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree requiredCertifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), or CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) are a plus10+ years of experience in EHS fieldStrong knowledge of OSHA 10.30, EPA, and other relevant regulations preferredExperience working with small and large manufacturing industriesExperience in greenfield, business expansion, innovation and/or fluid business environmentUnderstanding the complexity of working in a global matrix environmentLove glass and care about sustainability and the planetGood team playerAdditional Information
What we offer at O-I:
Salary Range: The expected salary range for this position is targeted to be between $100,000 - $120,000 USD. Actual pay will be adjusted based upon candidate experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
