Must possess personal qualities necessary to care and work with children, related to other staff, relate to parents. The aide will assist the teacher in meeting the day to day needs of the children. The Teacher Aide is responsible to assist in implementing age-appropriate curriculum. Encourage self-esteem and independence for the social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs of each child. Ensure that health, safety and nutritional education is integrated into the overall curriculum planning. Responsible for the care, supervision, and safety of center children, keeping classroom and equipment clean, neat, and orderly. The Teacher Aide must have compassion and understanding of needs of children and families from economically and culturally diverse backgrounds.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS + Have the physical ability and stamina to interact with children for up to seven hours; e.g. to move and react quickly, to lift and/or carry a child, to sit on the floor or use child size furniture, participate in filed trips and playground activities, etc. + Understand and implement, State of CT licensing codes, Head Start requirements, federal, state and local laws and regulations. + Demonstrate a thorough understanding of child development principles through daily interaction with children. + Read, write, and perform basic math skills. + Communicate effectively. + Make decisions, organize, and problem-solve. + Work under pressure and respond to stressful situations with a positive, mature judgment. + Exercise confidentially + Follow directions. + Prioritize tasks, work with minimal supervision and apply self as a positive, contributing member of a team. + Perform several functions concurrently in a deadline drive environment. + Ensure children are developing sound health and nutrition habits in daily routines and in curriculum through modeling. + Ensure children’s understanding of safety and regulations + Maintain stimulating, safe classroom environment / playground area. + Maintain records as indicated by supervisor. + Adhere to Windham Public Schools Head Start Policies and procedures. + Participate in center staff meetings. + Participate in workshops, formal course offerings, and training programs, as assigned. + Implement learned information from workshop, training, and formal education. + Provide documentation of on-going career development as required by licensing and accreditation. + Ensure that classroom is kept in order, and the equipment and supplies are in good condition. + Work as scheduled, daily attendance and punctuality are required. + Demonstrate and maintain a positive attitude, establish good working relations with staff and coworkers. + Dress and conduct oneself in a professional and respectful manner. + Must have or obtain and maintain first-aid, CPR, and medication administration certification within six months of hire. + Provide current physical (less than 2 years) and negative TB test results (less than 6 months) before or upon hire. + Willingness to take on additional tasks, as required by funding source to maintain program and agency operations. + Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred QUALIFICATIONSCDA Credential or enrolled in a CDA credential programMust be at least 18 years of age.REPORT TO: Program Supervisor/ Early Head Start Manager/TeacherNOTE:This job posting outlines the general nature of the work being performed by people in this job.
